not in silent mode but in full function mode is there a quiet shutter option? has anyone been able to compare how loud it is compared to a D3 (d3 super loud, super distracting, so loud Kanye West will definitely hear it and try to break your camera loud) Anyone on the forum actually hear it in real life yet?

Nope...

Nikon redesigned the shutter but there is nothing which confirms that the shutter is up to the standards set by others. It will be a real drawback if the noise level remains as it actually is with their current D3 / D3s

I think it is nice and loud. So if you are shy, use the silent mode. As for me, if I have to shoot Kanye West and he reaches for my D3, he would find out how hard the magnesium body is on his teeth and nose. I Don't reach for your microphone, so don't reach for my camera.

Good cyclists are:
Visible, Predictable, Alert, Assertive and Courteous

They also use the five layers of protection available.
Layer 1: Control your bike (Don't fall or collide with others)
Layer 2: Follow the rules (Don't be the cause of traffic crashes)
Layer 3: Use Lane position (Discourage other drivers mistakes)
Layer 4: Hazard Avoidance (Avoid other drivers mistakes and road hazards)
Layer 5: Utilize passive protection (Use protection when all else fails)

The D4 is designed for sports shooters and so it does not have a quiet mode like the Canon cameras. It has the option of shooting in live view with limited autofocus so that the shutter is not released.

Nikon keeps increasing the fps for its sports photographers and penalizes all the photographers who do not need 11fps or even 3fps but do need a quiet camera to do their job. If you need the quietest possible camera get a mirrorless model or go to Canon's pro line.

There are 3 options, regular loud(but with a lower mass shutter), Quiet mode like the D7000 which is quite unobtrusive( I shoot in quiet ballet theaters and drama from first balcony and no one notices it) and finally Silent mode which uses electronic shutter and mirror for totally silent shooting as 2fps with no moving parts.

I'd like to shoot Kanye myself...

You might want to check details out before posting, Both my D3s and D7000 have a quiet mode, The D4 will be the same
