UV filter fits w/o lens hood adaptor... if you reverse it.

I just accidentally found out that there's no real need for the lens hood adaptor to attach a UV filter (and keep the smaller form factor).

not sure if that is known already, but if you just reverse the 49mm UV Filter, it screws on perfectly (at least mine) see pics:

no hood

hood with UV filter

reversed UV filter / no hood

however now, the lens cap does not hold tight anymore..

Now take the silver trim ring that you removed to install the filter and screw it to the exposed filter threads for a more finished appearance.

Be careful with that -- the lens may bump into the filter at close focusing distances. Macro mode will also not work and cause a lens error to show on the screen.

You won't be able to set use your camera on macro mode with your filter installed without the extension adapter. As mentioned above, your lens will bump into the filter and could potentially damage the camera. There are tons of articles on the web about using filters on this camera, etc.
