I purchased a K5 just at the start of the 100euro (£90) rebate/promotion, lucky me as I nearly bought it the week before - phew saved by my slight hesitation at the time, however, my question is has anyone yet received credit to their bank account, or, a cheque maybe, although I realise it may be a bit too soon.

I ask this because I bought a Nikon a few years ago and it took forever to receive a cheque back.

I can't answer for this time round, but I remember a previous rebate scheme, when it did take a few weeks to come through. I was told by the dealer that it was because Pentax only had one person handling the scheme part-time and he was having to batch up the requests (or some such story). Since then, the Pentax UK team has been reduced in number, but I'm guessing similar arrangements have been made. It would be interesting to hear from others for this time round. (If I remember, I could ask the Pentax rep at the SRS Pentax open day tomorrow.)

According to their website it will about 6 weeks to be processed and be paid via etransfer to your bank.

I used the Pentax rebate for the K5 last december, in Switzerland. It took about 6 weeks for me to receive the Cashback.

Why don't they just cut the price and have done with it? Then they won't have to hire someone to deal with processing the claims. Seems a silly way to do it.

Because most people don't follow thru with the rebate, so don't send it in, some lose the check, etc. It's a temp. price change effectively.

Correct. When I worked for ICI many years ago, our take up of cashback offers was fairly low. I cannot remember the percentage now, but I believe it was only about 60%. Thats why a lot companies prefer it. Additionally in some countries there are tax deductions available as it is "marketing expenditure"
