Dear all

My P7000 has the following three problems, its running the current Firmware 1.1.

1.The focus fails even in good lightening condition but ultimately it will focus after few try.
2.The Camera sometimes powers ON when any button is pressed in OFF mode.

3.The Camera resets to factory default when the battery pack is removed for few minutes.

Is there any one facing the same problem? Kindly discuss what needs to be done to solve the issue.

Are these problems present in P7100, Will it be good to get a P7100?

Suggest any other brand / model to replace the P7000 if the problem cannot be solved. Never thought Nikon will be marketing a faulty camera.

Thanks.

I think you may not have gotten a reply because the P7000 problems have been talked to death in this forum. I have a P7000 and the problems you describe seem to go beyond what others have experienced. To me it sounds as though you have a defective unit that needs to be looked at by Nikon repair. It's possible that the firmware has become corrupted so I would try a full reset (as documented in the user manual) before sending it in.

I have the P7000 and do not have any of those problems. In good light the P7000 focuses very quickly, unless you are trying to focus on a very low contrast area. I think your P7000 may be defective.

Yes to be honest my P7000 has it's problems - problematic occasional focussing, slow menu response, relatively slow raw + jpg recording etc., but nothing like you have stated.

As mentioned, I would return your unit to either the shop you bought it for (if you can) or Nikon and have it looked at. Whilst the P7000 is far from perfect, it's certainly not that bad (well my example at least).

Agree with previous responders. I have a P7000 also and have nowhere near the problems you are describing. Time for Nikon repair me thinks.

My P7000 still fails to focus over and over again, I keep calm and keep trying, the quality is OK when it decides to co-operate.

The powering on when any button was pushed was fixed on mine with the firmware update, which doesn't seem to work for you.

I haven't had a reset when removing the battery.

It is the most irritating camera I have ever owned, but until they bring out a Canon G series with the focal length of a G9, I will stick with it, I'm certainly not going to throw good money after bad by buying a P7100

Send yours back but try reinstalling the firmware one more time first.

Just send it to a Nikon repair center. I've had a couple D7000s with focus problems and Nikon fixed them perfect. Nikon Torrance also totally replaced the focus mechanism in an 80-400 that had been thrashed and it came back perfect.

Thanks to all for helping me out. I will send it to Nikon for servicing.

Not been on DPR for a while so sorry for not replying sooner...

I had similar problems with my P7000. Although the focusing issue was fixed for me after firware update. Camera is still slow to focus and record images.

at about 10 months old mine developed a fault where the on/of switch works sometimes and not at others. Also I would take a photo in single shot mode, and it would take another one afterwards without pressing the button.

I sent mine back to Nikon 5 weeks ago, still no sign of them even looking at it yet.

I do like the camera and was desparate to get it back, but now I just want a refund so I can get something else... Don't think I'll ever get another Nikon.

Another problem discovered - the lens cover doesnt open up sometimes when the camera is ON.
