I usually shoot videos in AVCHD but decided to at least try the MP4 option. Well, I tried it and the files play back fine on my camera but I cannot find any way in the world to import them into my computer.

This is definitely not going to ruin my day since I plan to shoot continue shooting in AVCHD. They import and play fine for me.

I am curious to know why I can't import the MP4 files though. Any thoughts?

Thanks,...Jack

I import the MP4 videos using iphoto but can't import the other type. I haven't tried to import on the PC or using the Sony PMB software.
I'm glad you asked this question.

Use a card reader and drag&drop them from the camera folder MP_ROOT/100ANV01

Thanks for the help. I hooked the camera up to the computer with a USB cable. Then I opened Windows Movie Maker. On the left side was a list of sources to import videos from. I hightlighted something called "Removable Drive G". There I found the MP_ROOT file and highlighted it. It showed all the MP4 files in the camera. I then selected all and imported them. I'm sticking with AVCHD, I think. They come right into Picasa for me.

I'm glad to know how to deal with the MP4 files. Thanks!

it is also possible that I would get some MP4 files from other people and wouldn't want to waste time trying to learn how to import them. I normally use iMovie for video, and the only camera that I have that uses a non-AVCHD format is my Flip.

AVCHD is a very good format, it gives good quality and relatively small file sizes.

It's just that it's not as easy to work with at the moment.

I share files with others who may not have AVCHD editing facilities, so find shooting in MP4 more convenient.

Horses for courses.

Fyi, if you took the card out of the camera and instead used a usb card reader, you would use Windows Explorer (assuming you use Windows) to navigate to this folder, and drag and drop anything or everything from there to your hard drive. You can do this with your AVCHD files and still photo's too, just locate their relevant folder locations. I prefer this method.

Have a nice day.
