Good News about 45mm/f1.8 shipping!

Just talked with H and B digital. They have sold and shipped their first two allotments. They are not sure when they will get more in and they have taken the item off of their website.
. . . Do you mean B&H? Never heard of H and B digital.

I had an order pending with J&R but the order status still says backordered. I went to Amazon just to see if their status had changed and they showed one in stock from 17th street Photo for $399 plus $11 shipping. I snagged it and immediately called J&R to cancel with them. They said they had one with my name on it and could ship today! Yikes.

Nope, it's H&B Digital--I ordered a 25mm/1.4 from them yesterday morning with free FedEx ground shipping, and the lens was in FedEx's hand's by the early afternoon.

I hope you were able to get one - somewhere! I cancelled mine at Amazon. So much for the "confirmed" delivery date of September 23rd that I received. :-)

Oly US still has it for $399.99.

They get new hot items quickly and ship fast.

I ordered from them E-P3 on the very first day it became available in US. They shipped it to me the same day and I got it before weekend. Even included a small gift - Canon magnifying glass for negatives.

On the other hand, I had bad luck with Adorama preorders. I preordered both E-P3 and 45mm with them and had to cancel preorders because somebody else got the items earlier.

It's good that they don't charge for preorders until the item is shipped, though.

I placed three pre-orders in July -- with Amazon, B&H, and Adorama. Then I watched as others on this forum were getting satisfaction from smaller sources: H and B, Newtonville, etc.. So I phoned Olympus America and ordered one at about 9:00 PDT. Paid about a 15% premium for sales tax and overnight delivery.

But it feels good to quit messing around while the usual dealers get their fingers out, and actually be able to buy the lens instead of just pre-ordering it. Looking forward to feeling even better tomorrow when it arrives.

Olympus store out of stock again.

It's common for third-party sellers to sell more than MSRP, but it's indeed strange to see Amazon do it too.
