Would you buy the E-P3 with kit lens or 17mm OR the 12mm lens for an older model PEN?

Of your choices I'd go for the second option. Not sure where you'll find an older pen for that kind of money, tho. Might be able to get the panny 20mm with a E-P2 for that cash.

Of the current n43 options I'd get a G3 with kit even though the E-P3 is such a lovely camera. Just costs too much by the time you add a EVF to it.

The 12mm would be great to have, but personally after owning the ep2 and now ep3 I could not go back to the slow responsiveness. It's amazing how much more I want to pick up sthe camera knowing it will keep up, and also that I don't have to carry the fl14 anymore.

Just my experience, but I also have the 20mm and the 45 on pre order. The 14 42 kit is worth getting just for the movie focus abilities, and does take nice pics also.

Hmmm... I'd arguably try increase the sum by 100 Euros and purchase the E-PLite 3 body only to add the 20 1.7 and the 45 1.8 and wait for the faster zooms to come.

Why not - if there's enough space on the sofa...

I have just had the same problem and whilst the E-pl1, 2 or 3 are great as well as the e-p2. I have to say the extra responsiveness of the E-p3 and the fact it's easier to hold ( for me ) over the E-PL's. the touch screen wasn't really of interest but the extra thumb dial was. Had a lot of thoughts on lenses but the kit lens has it's uses so got the camera with that ( both used so saved £150 of the new price and it's mint) but have also gone for the 20mm 1.7 to have as a slimed down camera.

I think the E-p3 and 20mm is going to be looked back on as a killer combination. IMHO

I already own the E-PL1 and the Panasonic 20mm...looking to upgrade my setup
Thx

I got the 12mm first and then I got the E-P3. I don't know if that's right for you though.

Here's an idea if you're willing to hang on to the E-PL1 a little while longer. I'd take a look at the 14mm f2.5, perhaps an EVF and maybe even see if there were any $150 40-150mm lenses lurking around. Or take a good look at the 12 if that's what you want. Even though I have the 12, I'm picking up a 14 for cheap on ebay since I've seen some nice work done with it.

I don't know what and how you shoot but adding some new glass may make more of a difference for you than a new body. I've had the E-P1, 2 and 3 and feel that there have been incremental improvements but nothing groundshaking IMO. The next series may be the one...

Thx all. Should have added that I already have the 14mm and EVF as well.

That's assuming I already had the Panny 20/1.7, as you do.

The E-PM1 has the fast focusing of the newer bodies. The only thing interesting the E-P3 has over the E-PM1 is the larger screen. And the 45/1.8 looks to be an excellent lens. I'd not go for the 12/2. $800 is a lot for a single lens, particularly one with such specific uses. If wide and faster aperture is really important, swap the Panasonic 14/2.5 for the 45/1.8...

That makes it easier.

You don't need the 17, so that knocks out the EP3 w/17 and leaves the EP3/14-42 or the 12mm.

I would get the 12 if the 14 isn't wide enough for you, sell the 14 and get the EPL3/14-42 and I might be a few hundred over your budget (or sell the EPL1 as well and get closer to the budget)

If the 14 is wide enough, I'd get the EP3/14-42 and if one of the lenses wasn't getting used, sell it and wait for the 45.
Thx all. Should have added that I already have the 14mm and EVF as well.

Agreed re EP-2 vs. EP-3. I am going to sell my EP-2 body with the 14-42mm EP-3 kit lens and pickup a GF3X with the pancake kit zoom as a secod body. The EP-2 was a terrific camera but the EP-3 is a whole different class.

I am not interested in the 12mm, personally.

Do you need the new body now? If not why not wait for end of the year for Pro Pen and GF7 announce? The price will go drop soon. For the lens that depend on your shooting styles just get the best lens for its price and you are set. There are also cheap toy lenses that you can play with as well.

I'm not sure how much of an improvement the E-P3 would be for you. If you're looking for image quality, you're barking up the wrong tree--the E-P3 is a step back from the E-PL1, especially in terms of JPEG quality. If you're looking for other things than image quality, the E-P3 gets you faster AF with supported lenses (including the 12mm), superior ergonomics, a thumb wheel, better looks, and a shutter that can go a stop faster. Is that worth $800 to you?

I think I'd go for that 12mm, and maybe the 45mm f/1.8 down the road. And then you'll have a pretty much impeccable range of primes. My personal ideal prime-centered Micro Four Thirds camera bag would probably consist of a 12mm f/2.0, 25mm f/1.4, 45mm f/1.8 and a good tele zoom (though we'll have to see about those Panasonic X 12-35 and 35-100 lenses down the road too...)

I find the AF noticably better with ALL lenses, not sure what you mean by supported? even my 4/3 adapted lenses, although still not great, have improved..
