Hello,

I would like to buy a Nikon SLR Digital Camera. Nikon, since our photographers have Nikon lenses. The photos will be needed for magazine print up to 1/2 page 300 dpi. On pictures, mostly cars. I haven't decided whether to buy a D1X or a D100. The later seems a better option because of it's price, but can it really do a good job of profesional photography. Does it in performance differ very much from the D1X??

Thank you very much for your help,

best regards

Hi Ziga,

Both will produce images that look perfect at that size.

The D1x has a few more professional features and may take a little more abuse; however, the D100 is using the latest chip, image quality is slightly better.

See this months issue of "Professional Photograher" magazine (UK).

Hi Ziga,
I don't own a D100, but I have a D1x and am very happy with it.

1) D100 has a smaller buffer which can hold only 3 raw frames and the storage write time is slower than D1x which can hold 6 raw frames.
2) The image of jpg file straight out from the camera is softer in D100.
3) build quality of D1x is much better, just like comparing F5/F100 to N80.

4) D100 is a prosumer camera, but D1x is for professional appications like yours.

For work, the D1X. For play, the D100.

Regards!

Have you considered a D-1h? It might be the JUST RIGHT camera twixt the two you are considering. Shoot NEF's to a huge buffer, save on 1gb IBM microdrives or 512mb CF cards. This will give you all the quality you need plus the STURDY PRO assets the D1h has in spades!

Pernel Pixel is Pure Digital Now
D-1 - D100 - 60mm f2.8 - 17-35mm f.2.8 - Oly 3030z (pocket pal)
Past Life: lost TWO Nikon SP's !@^@! - F's - Ftn's - Nikormat EL

I own the D1X and shot with the D100.

The D100 feels like a toy if you are used with the D1X. For pro work, I would only consider the D1X. For amateur work, I would only consider the D1X if you have enough money.

The D100 only if you want an amateur camera, that producers pro quality pictures. There is no relevant difference in image quality. If you want a better camera, wait for the D2, it will probably hit the shelves in feb/march 2002 (if it is announced at the Photo Kina 2002).
