Hi all - a New Olympus SZ-30MR user here :)

First, thanks to all your comments, inputs, pros and cons, posts about this camera earlier, it helped my decision.

So far I am happy with my camera, I need to play more with it and can't wait to try under proper light conditions.

The pics are a bit soft in general, I had to sharpen them. For some reason the pics. on the screen are so sharp - and later viewing on screen asks for sharpening.

The zoom is great, I love it. Same for the Super Macro. For this price level, this camera is a great pocket-size for travellers.

The pictures look good. Sometimes the photos can be a little soft in cloudy weather. I think the real test of sharpness comes when we print them out.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing.

Take several shots of each, play with the settings. The more you practice with the camera, the better you will get at it.
Keep posting!

With these pictures straight out of the camera, things look very promising. The pictures look better over the whole range than what I got from the SP-550UZ - which was good four years ago.

My partner and I just agreed that I can look at getting an SZ-30MR ('You don't question my art purchases' she sayd).

That's good news, Henry. Nice to see the SZ-30MR family growing :)

Hi Henry, like I said, the original coming out of the camera were a bit soft, I had to sharpen these pics. a bit. But I do not mind working later on my pictures.

I love most the SuperMacro & the great zoom, both awsome and in the next week I will discover most of the features, will let you know and upload more pics.
Thanks to all of you for your comments!

btw - the birds were almost with max. zoom, they were quite far away. Just like the airplane, I never thought I can take a "close" pic. like this, it was so far and fast.

The zoom is best if you see the town with church, then the church and then the clock.

The moon today.
Good try - you could do a little better by setting the ISO to 80 instead of Auto and if your having difficulty getting it in the centre then maybe set continuous shoot and the self timer, then it can take a sequence of images as the moon goes across the frame giving a better chance of one being in the right place.

So far my friends dont believe this camera can do this. They think I have a hubble. LoL
Try Jupiter next, you should get 4 of it's moons fairly easily, if you can get it focused, and it's in a good position at the moment.

Thats a very good effort, Shawnee.
My skies still arent steady enough to achieve the detail you have.

not post-processed ,sharpened or anything, just as it is.
I have had my SZ-30MR for just over two weeks now. As you say, the pictures come out useable straight from the camera. Still, in my view, the pre-processing is a bit heavy. So, the possibilities of improving on what the camera gives you are quite limited. I have to rejig my way of thinking to get the best out of the SZ-30MR.

Thanks Henry!

I meant - no Photoshop added or anything like this, it is as it is - that is why I said no processing (by myself in any softwares.

But I agree, sometimes I had the feeling that the camera inside does a lot of processing.
(I need to learn these terms, Im not a pro:) )
