In the HX100V manual(s) they mention a reset button. I know where it is.
But Sony does not tell us much more about it. Not really very user-friendly...

I guess I am expected to put a kind of very thin stick in the hole and press.
But when I do, nothing happens.

I may do these things in the wrong way. Hence my question for the pros.
1. Do this with camera on or off?
2. Press hard or rather be gentle? [so far neither helped ]
3. What exactly is supposed to be reset? All options or just a few?

Thanks in advance.

hi,

Read HX100 manual carefully (Software CD with HX100v), It is very simple to reset all setting,as explained below:

Initializes the setting to the default setting.
Even if you execute this function, the images are retained.

MENU -> (Settings)-> (Main Settings) -> [Initialize] desired mode [OK]

1) REC Settings - Initializes only the shooting settings. Select [REC Settings] to shoot with the camera’s default settings.

2) All Settings - Initializes all camera settings.

Note : Be sure not to turn off the camera while initializing.

I'm afraid you misunderstood me. I was referring to the reset button, which can be found under the LCD screen.

Meanwhile, I have found the answer. I had used a pencil tip to press on it, but it did not reach the button itself. So I used the tip of a pair of scissors. And lo and behold, a Sony DSC-HX100V in its pristine glory.

Nevertheless, thanks a lot for your feedback.

Kind regards

Ananda

can you tell us what 'actually happened' after you did the reset using the hole.......did camera return to factory settings? was it done with camera on/off? was memory card in/out? did the stuff on memory card stay/got erased? any other comments
(asking above questions just out of curosity)

1. Camera was off.
2. Pressing the reset button turned the camera on.
3. I had to fill in the main options again: language, date, display colour, etc.
4. PSAM original factory settings
5. Memory card in. Nothing got erased.

Other comment: I guess you can do the same via Main Settings --> Initialize -- > REC Settings/All Settings. The comment at the botom is: Reset to the default settings.
I haven't tried that out yet. Perhaps you can do that and let us know.

Still, I wonder what the difference is between the reset button under the LCD screen and these in the Menu.

Kind regards,

Ananda

The hard reset (button in hole) is to reset the camera if its software/firmware crashes or some failure which prevents the use of software reset option (menu)

Personaly I don't see why there is a menu option to do this but perhaps it doesn't reset everything. (Perhaps image counter doesn't get reset)
