I've made already over 30 000 shots and I'm wondering should I keep my FZ38 OR it is time to sell it?
What is your opinion?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing special.... I don't know how many shots I could take with it....

If the camera meets your needs, I reckon keep it for as long as it lasts.

I am not sure what the life is supposed to be, but I would expect a lot more than 30,000 shots. Had some fun today with mine.

Thank you for your answer , Mahmoud ! :)

But I'm wondering what is the maximum nomber of the shots I could take before the camera eventually die?

I have read that Olympus XXX DSLRs doesn't last more than 50 000 shots so I don't know what to do...
How many shots did you take with your FZ38? :)

How can you tell? I'm on my second SD card already, but I've not seen a 'total exposures' counter - is there one?

One could probably count the number of jpgs on their computer, or suss out the sequential image naming convention.

I have no idea to be honest. I go through phases where I take hundreds/thousands of photos then don't use it for a while. Then do it again. Yesterday I pulled it out again and you come to realise that each camera has its own charm and personality. I wouldn't sell mine.

To be honest I want all my cameras to outlast me!
(I hate to see things die)

I have set my FZ38 on sequential image naming and it shows almost 31 000. I am very excited about upcoming FZ47/48 and I'll definitely buy it. So I'm wondering about selling FZ38. I love it but I think it getting old. So what is your experience? How many shots does your counter shows?
How long do you expect your camera live?
Have a great new day! :)

FYI, I have a Panasonic FX-5, which I got in 2004, and have clocked in access of 80,000 shots and it's not showing any signs of stopping.

So unless Panasonic's quality has dropped significantly, 30,000, should be a long way from the end. :D

I don't remember seeing that - where is it?

DSLR's typically fail in the mechanical shutter...what you were referencing with the Oly E-xxx bodies (consumer grade), their pro grade bodies are good for over 100k shutter actuations. For compacts, it's very different. Their shutters do not suffer the same abusive mechanically as do DSLRs. I am not aware of any manufacturer that publishes an estimate life of a compact. If you like it, keep it and shoot with it until it dies. You're not going to get much for it if you sell it and you like it.

If you are nervous about a failure at an inopportune time, just get a new camera and keep the old one as a back up. I always recommend a back up just in case. Whether its a spare tire, spare batteries, spare SD card or a spare camera....I don't like getting stuck.

I have mine reset so don't know exactly, but probably around the same.

FZ47/48 sounds interesting to me but probably not enough for me to want to upgrade the FZ35/FZ38. The better video and zoom over the FZ35 sound good though, and I'm kind of relieved that Panasonic are not going with more zoom and megapixels than they currently have (I think quality would suffer).

very good policy and strategy for being on the safer side.Same here.
