Just strolling around this morning looking for pictures and trying some new techniques with my A1200.

Not a lot of action -- a lazy, hot day I guess.

Comments welcome.

Very nice color and sharp.

Based on your pictures, I recommended this camera to a relative that didn't want to spend alot of money and wanted quality pictures.

Thanks Sueanne. I have the in-camera sharpness set to +1, the contrast to -1 and generally use EV -2/3. I also do a bit of pp sharpening with a high-pass filter I like, but that's about all. The images respond very well to a little additonal sharpening.

The first photo was taken with the 1.54X digital teleconverter, which gives an effective FOV comparable to 170mm at the full tele position. I always use the OVF, but I have the menu set so that if I turn on the LCD while shooting, the 1.54X magnification is automatically switched in. Makes for fast switching from the wider focal lengths to the longer focal lengths.

The second thing I was trying is choosing my own ISOs instead of using the auto ISO feature. I noticed that the camera tends to up the ISO before I would. I'm sure that's intended to keep the shutter speed high, but I have found I can hold the camera very steady using the OVF, so I can usually operate at one stop lower ISO than the camera chooses.

Thanks for looking.

I have to agree. I'll keep this camera in mind for those looking for a less expensive option or even an inexpensive backup. Those are some sharp shots.
