SX 230 Competition...Read This Test For Comparison

This year Panasonic lost its edge on travel zoom and these two cams (SX230, HX9V) are two best ones I think. In general, SX230 is better for stills and HX9V for videos, panoramas. I really wish Canon offers AVCHD or MP4 video formats in their cam like Sony. MOV file is just too huge to deal with in PC.

I still find all of the CMOS cam shots to be a bit too soft for my tastes, but as an all-around travel zoom, I think the SX230 is a solid performer. It has a tendency to over-expose and not nearly as sharp at wide as I'd like (better as you zoom), but again, a good cam overall. I think the IS is pretty good also. This one was taken at full zoom w/ focus on on ... well you can guess what the focus was on. :D

Agreed on the video quality. You might want to add the burst speed as well, as I've found the HX9V to be more impressive. However, where it lies flat in the category that's most important, is image quality. Furthermore, the lag time between shots is annoying. I really wanted to like the HX9V but over time I just couldn't get past the over-processed, watercolor effect of the pictures. So I ended up getting the SX230 and couldn't be happier with its image quality. Suffice it to say, pictures come out sharp and accurate.

From the http://www.imaging-resource.com test..

"Overall, the Canon SX230 HS does remarkably well in this test, showing that Canon was wise to go from the 14-megapixel CCD that appeared in the SX210 to the 12-megapixel CMOS sensor in the SX230."

Many others use the newer 16MP CMOS sensor now...
Wonder how that would compare using Canon's processing...

Please tell me what's wrong with the HX9v so that I don't have to spend time looking into it. Thanks!
One thing I just noticed in the "Lens Performance" images is that the grass in the HX9v image is NR smeared quite a bit. But, the HX9v detail looks quite good in the Forest Shots. Interesting.
It's always been my position that Sony's hardware is just fine - but their processing often ruins the IQ.

Just a quick one. Is the CHDK available for SX220 already? I just had a look at Wiki and it says:
"CHDK is NOT available for the Powershot SX220 yet."

Cheers,

Cheers,
as i told it was already released, altought it's a beta.
The raw picture above was taken with that firmware.

right today was released the beta6
here's the new version that fixes the non standard CHDK start button issue. Now you have to hold on/off button to go directly into record mode.
There's one issue that is still present. When shooting in normal continuous mode in raw DNG mode sometimes hangs when saving between the shoots. It never hangs in continuousAF though.

Oh neat! I didn't know there were hacks for cameras..

So is this a hacked firmware? Will it void warranty?

I'd like to shoot raw for HDR shots..
