It's weird, some of these samples have 'smudging', some don't- regardless of ISO. Some of the best shots are actually from the 17-50 zoom.

Overall, I actually find them quite good. The best ones have excellent detail. I'm curious how the ISO 1600+ pics can be cleaned up.

At the moment I think they are only great for B & W.

here is the crop on just the spider

Actually, I think some of these are pretty great:

The cat is crazy sharp, for example.

Looks to me that the weakness is in the RAW processing software, not the sensor or even the lens. The colour and noise processing can definitely be improved.

I'm sure this will be improved in SPP and firmware updates.

People forget that ALL raws look pretty bad if not processed well, whatever the camera.

P.S.

People forget that if you don't want to print large, the SD1 can be turned into an SD15 with even bigger pixels!

Just switch to low-mode. Ta-da! Your per-pixel sharpness is now BETTER than SD15 and you've also improved your signal-noise ratio thank to the VPS binning tech.

Better colour, less noise, more accuracy. Buffer also increases to 15, file-size is smaller too.

For an example of what this would look like, downsize the cat pic..

...to exactly 50% in photoshop. only, because VPS is analog it will look even better and reduce luminance/chrominance noise.

well u can see the cat here...expand as u wish...

PS : i posted these 2 at the canon 1D/5d forum...now i am hiding in Charles Xavier's mansion

This is what I don't understand.

The cat picture doesn't show smear, neither does the picture with trash.

They also don't show excessive noise. However, the spider picture and some others have some pixel smearing and more noise too despite similar ISO.

What gives? Tripod?

Of course, that's it.

You can see on the grassy bank shot that the pixel-smear happens because of the wind.

The static shots all look ultra sharp and clean.

I don't think so. I resized the ISO1600 image to SD14's size (2640×1760) and it doesn't look worse than SD14's image at ISO400 with noise reduction off. So the rumour about SD1's ISO1600 is comparable to SD14/15's ISO400 seems to be quite accurate.

Totally. I think for handholding it's better to use low-mode.

Check out the fungus shot quality - WOW that is some detail!!

There are full size images thee.
Seems like 1600 and 3200 are the same image aka an link error.
Both 1600 and 3200 links to this image:

From this small images is hard to say much about anything but of some of the properties of the lens (like bokeh), but not really much about the camera or the sensor.

Yes, these look pretty sharp, pretty neutral, some a little dark for my taste. What else is there to judge? When you´re selling a HIGH RESOLUTION camera you need to provide HIGH RESOLUTION samples. Those thumbnails dont say much.

Um, you can click through and get to full size.

Press the rightmost button after clicking on the thumbnail.
