Chromebook vs ????

... I've tried some laptops out in some stores, and one odd thing I'm finding with many trackpads is the lack of vertical scrolling with the trackpad itself. Dell, Lenovo and Samsung do, HP, Apple, Asus, Acer, and Sony did not. I'm referring to vertical scrolling on the far right margin of the trackpad with a single finger.
My old Toshiba laptop also has scrolling on the right edge of the trackpad (and on the bottom if you choose). You can also continuously scroll by circling your finger on the trackpad after starting a scroll on the right edge, which is cool. Though I'm using Windows 7.

Thanks for the effort Jim. The rub though .... in finding an adequate pc ... is I have few stores that even sell pc's .... and none sell any pc I'm even remotely interested in. If one lives in a big city, I suppose the choices are many .... where I live .... it's just the way it is. I've always relied on online ordering and doing as much research online beforehand .... but there's so may pc's ... so many distros .... it's a crap shoot of buy and try ..... order from only places with return policies I can agree to.

The more I've pondered it .... the more I see all I need is a web based device like a tablet or Chromebook. I may have to wait for more Chromebooks though, because neither one has what I need .... hdmi and matte panel. The ssd is something I really like to, as I'd be moving it around a lot. I'm like a lot of people who buy tablets and want chromebooks ..... a simple device to surf on the go that doesn't have the baggage of a full pc OS, be silent(minimal noise or fanless) .... and stream online video well enough to hook it up to an hdtv, etc. etc.

I'm hoping this is the beginning of a revolution of the way we surf and think of the devices we surf with. Nothing's going to replace a desktop .... nor are these meant to .... these are additions. Since so many software developers have neglected new ideas in OS software .... I'm happy to see the landscape changing ... be it Google, Apple , Android Jolicloud or whoever.

I have a Droid X phone and love it.... . despite it trying to be a jack of all trades and excelling at none ... except making great phone call of course! I just wish I could morph it into a bigger device when I want a full size keyboard and screen! Hence ... tablets and simpler netbooks fit the bill.
