Have been shooting over the very sunny bank holiday and found the XZ-1 screen a real pain in bright light, so picked up the VF-2 today , brilliant evf and solves issues of bright light outside when trying to compose, feels far more like a DSLR experience, although makes my D50 feel like a dark and dim tunnel, the view feels more like my Father in laws D3s full frame viewfinder.
Highly recommend it if anyone has been thinking of one for there xz-1.

Hi,

Am I correct in assuming that the viewfinder also displays shooting information?

Regards,
Mischa

YES it will.

I'd really like one but I'm just having a hard time justifying the price of it! For the price of an XZ-1 + a VF-2 you can get some pretty sweet alternatives ...

That crossed my mind, but i could also come in usefull for my E-pl1 as well
One of the reasons I purchased the XZ-1 for my every day camera is because I have the VF-2 already that I use on my main camera, the E-PL2. So that is a big perk for me. Great combo - both kits.

BTW, the VF-2 is AWESOME!

Glad to hear you like the VF2...nice add-on for those that would like one.

Thanks for info, can you tell me if it is put on and off quick or if it is rather complicated.

Piece of cake to take off and on and it stays on fine. That said, it never leaves the camera until the camera goes in the pouch. Then I put it in the strap pouch that came with it. I never use this camera without the VF-2 and even my wife has become a convert.

I must confess I usually shoot an E5 DSLR. Now that is a veiwfinder.

Thanks!

Sorry to spoil your party, but my VF-2 on XZ-1 (both new) is not a success.

The image is grossly overexposed to the degree that most light colours show white, and other colours are bluish.

But I like it because it has dioptre adjustment and I can clearly see all settings with my distance glasses, whereas I would have to put my reading glasses on to see the info on the LCD.

It is possible that my VF-2 is faulty or badly adjusted. I am in the process of finding somebody in Melbourne to compare mine with theirs. I did buy mine online, so can't go to the shop.

I simply will not use my Xz-1 without the VF-2! It makes all the difference - especially outside.
what is that red ring on your camera??

Thought i would pimp up the XZ-1 ! only kidding, i found it the perfect size to create slightly more friction on the front control ring, personally find it slightly loose.

I would definitely check that out, it doesn't sound normal. After all the hype, when I finally used one in person, I was a little let down, it wasn't quite as sharp and high res as I was expecting, but its still a very good VF none the less. No problems like you are describing.

Do any LCD screen settings affect the viewfinder image? Maybe you have brightness cranked up or something that seems ok on the screen but doesnt translate well to the viewfinder?

Me 2 has become so used to use the EVF that I does not want to miss it specially when their is also no articulated screen.
