wx7/9 and hx7

Yes, that looks exactly like WX9, just marketed for Australia. There is no WX7 in the U.S.

it is cheaper too? so why then if they are the same... and it's sold here in canada at my local henrys.... they have both the wx7 and wxp. the wx7 is 249 and the wxp is 269 then they have a bonus pack for the wx9 and it comes with a case and a 8gb card for 279.

ok.. another Question here.... I went to one of my local stores and actually held each camera and played around with them. I have decided that i don't care for a canon, i don't like where the flash is located at all, i will have a difficult time trying to hold it in another way not to block the flash.... so i went back to wx9/10, then the sales guy started to mention the hx7 to me....again putting too many decisions back into my head, lol. then he also started to tell me about panasonic ZS8.... it looked nice, held nice, felt nice, price was good but a ccd sensor........... what are your thoughts on this panasonic ZS7 compared to the sony's......

the new panasonic zs8 sux with their new sensor. The older one used a different sensor and had nice crisp pics in good light.. but not in low light. I had one. Sold it for the Olympus XZ-1

It's interesting that you decided against Canons because of flash position. You stated before that you are looking for good cam for low light shooting without camera. I agree that these Canons got flash on the position easily blocked by hand though.

Regarding your question on ZS7, I have it as well as its older model ZS3. It's very decent travel zoom P&S for good to medium lighting condition. It rocks in outdoors daytime, even comes close to entry level DSLRs. But there is no way it can take good non-flash indoor shots under dim lighting. It's because of slow lens (F/3.3 at wide) and small CCD sensor (1/2.33").

So I'm looking for this kind of P&S like elph 300, WX9 with faster lens, CMOS sensor. I prefer WX10 over WX9 because of a little faster lens, but I'm still waiting on reviews, sample images of WX10 to compare with others.

ya true about the low light bit vs the flash of the 220. but it was the way the whole camera felt in my hand too. I found that when zooming and then focusing too was very slow compared to the wx10. maybe it was just "that" camera", i don't know but i was not impressed on how slow it was to focus??? then when i had the sony inhand, it was super quick and i knew i would miss less shots b/c of that... also with the flash of the 220, i don't know if after many times that might strip the mechanicals on it from having your finger over top when it was supposed to open? I truly thought i was going to love the canon and was going to even buy it once i held it but i left disappointed. The sony wx10 was a very nice small quick camera. just the 7 times zoom was a bit less then i wanted for the price of 319. i wanted to stick with at least 10 times.

Hey lin7604,

Will you be kind enough to serve humanity with a few pictures made with the WX10 ?

when i do get it i will.... i haven't decided yet if i am going to wait for it's 1st sale or not..... i know the wx9 has a good promo on now at our local store so i hope that the wx10 will go on sale soon...

Today I got my hands on Elph 300hs and WX9 at Bestbuy here in Southern California. To me Elph 300hs felt very nice with very slim form factor. The metal body surface was somewhat roughened for better grip. I also liked its UI menu in P mode. With wheel button on the back, I could easily access EV, ISO, focus settings. I liked small zoom window feature for auto-focus. It was priced at 249.00.

WX9 was a little bigger than Elph 300hs, but it's still quite slim and easily fits into my pocket. It's UI is even simpler than 300hs but offers less options to change. Accessing EV, ISO setting takes one extra step than 300hs. The optical zoom and AF felt fairly snappy and smooth. And it was cheaper at 199 at BB now.

While 300hs is smaller and offers more useful UI, I'm leaning to WX9 due to price and supposedly better video recording. WX10 doesn't seem to be available at BB yet here.

Can any early owners of WX9 or WX10 share sample photos here. I am especially interested in both wide angle and telephoto indoors.

I saw some WX9 user's review saying that image at telephoto isn't that good. Also it looks like Sony discontinued WX10 for now according their site possibly due to earthquake.

pssst if you're interested in the WX10 you'd better order one while they still got em in stock... you can always return it if is sux.

WX9 is not the same as WX10. The lens is completely different so you'll get different results. Telephoto indoors is not going to be as good as wide angle because aperture is going to get smaller as you zoom further. That goes for just about any compact cam with a zoom lens. The WX10 is faster at wide angle f2.4 and faster at telephoto f5.9 even though it's a 7x zoom. The WX9 has f2.6 at wa and f6.3 at telephoto even though it's only a 5x zoom so the lens on the WX9 is probably worse in quality than the WX10 and that's reflected in the price difference of the two cams.

Thanks. I also noticed amazon sells WX10 saying it starts shipping from 4/17. Maybe they are getting it from B&H. Pricing on both store seems to be the same 279. WX9 at my local BB is selling at 199 now, lower than 219 online.

I know that WX10 has faster lens than WX9 but not by much. I'm not sure if it's worth of extra 80. 5X zoom is fine for me because this will be mostly for indoors.

that is a very good point made for me... about the zoom.. i was looking yesterday at the wx10 and really liked it but it's a bit pricey here 319. whereas the wx9 is going for a package deal for 279. it comes with a 8gb card and case. the main reason why i am getting a new camera is b/c i don't care for the indoor/low light images from my f70exr, so since it's mainly for indoor pics i should be fine with the 5times zoom of the wx9...
