Bimo has a full set of images at his pbase, but I will upload a few this weekend. I am hoping to get the filter adapter and will include pictures of both.

The bottom of my e5700 has no contacts. Has 4 very small screws
and the tripod hole.
Greg -- open the battery door. Once the door is open,
there is a small plastic plate that can be slid out exposing
the contacts.

The plate is between the battery door and the tripod
socket.

I know all about where the contacts are on the bottom of the camera. This person is saying there are contacts on the bottom of the e5700 which is the battery grip. There are none. I have my grip installed and works fine. If you did not remove the little door, installation would be a bit messy.

Yes Greg thanks, rom your post I was sure to look for those pins. Fed Ex just rolled up with my grip a few minutes ago .............

sweet little device!!!!! Nice balance too. Portrait shutter and zoom are neat features I almost forgot about when I ordered. Installed, it looks like a mini D1X with a mini 28-70 on the front.

How do your like the images vs, the D1X jpegs. Do you shoot yours 3:2 to have all the same aspect ratios on your images. I would like to shoot NEFS with it, but I use Bibble and Eric doesn't support it yet and I haven't learned enough of Photshop 7 on how to do batch with them. They are so slow to write in comparison to the D1X. One image is slow enough going in to PS7, batch would take forever.

Not a big deal this will be my snapshot camera (my neck is thankful) anyway with my serious stuff still on the D1X.

Have used my grip on the 5700 for a day now and like more and more. Have left the camera on between shots and going to see how long these batteries will last.

To tell you the honest truth, I can find little difference of printed output from the NEF on the D1x and the NEF from the CP5700. If the image was well exposed on the 5700 it rivals many of my images with the D1x. I am enjoying not having to carry but a small bag with the 5700, 5000, 80dx and a few accessory lenses. What a difference. The D1x has spent some time on the closet shelf while the Coolpix units are going with me. The more I use the 5700 the more I like it.

I use nothing but NEF (raw) unless speed and rapid multiple images are required, I then go to the best .jpeg. I do not mind waiting for the NEF to be converted, it is time well spent if you need to do some cropping. I down load all of my images via FIreWire CF card reader, it very fast.

Nef is a win-win as the file size is smaller and it take less time to download it to the CF card from the camera. BUT, I will tell you that the best .jpeg is not lacking alot of quality.

Hope you are having a great time

Thanks, I am so far. I shoot nothing but NEF with my D1x because of all the reasons you stated. I really like Bibble and am disappointed that 5700 nefs aren't supported ...yet. For th life of me I don't understand why Nikon can't make the NEF's compatible.

I have downloaded capture 3, but haven't used it yet. DOes it support 5700 NEFS?

I agree with you on the jpeg images. I really am amazed at all the bitching and complaints about the 5700. It's Nikon's best non-pro camera yet.

The autofocus is pure Coolpix. I can't see them changing that. I do wish they would make at least exploit the DX flashes. It can't be that hard to do. My SB80DX is bigger than the 5700 though.

My wife asked the same question "why is the D1x sitting on the bench now?"

One other question I have. Even though the jpeg's are nice, why are they seemingly so compressed? The D1X fine are 2.3-2.5MB while they 5700's are 1.4 - 1.8. There isn't that much difference in the MP resolution.
Has anyone gotten a good answer on that yet.

1. You can get it for less than $140. Shop around.

2. You are paying for the convenience of being able to shoot all day without having to change batteries.

3. The nikon battery pack actually improves the balance, overall feel and stability of the camera, and IMHO also by virtue of that makes it easier to get better hand-held long telephoto shots. It also adds a second shutter release to aid with vertical shots.

If you shoot a lot, and don't want to have to swap batteries every 1-1.5 hours, it is a tremendous benefit and well worth the cost.

Of course then if you don't need or want those capabilities, then the alternatives are an external third party battery pack connected via a cord or extra batteries that you swap as needed. The choice is yours.

I have taken 276 NEF and .tiffs and the battery still shows full. These have been taken over the last 2 days with maybe 20% with internal flash for light fill. The rechagable batteries still show full (all bars). Will keep shooting tommorow.

The next battery run will be even better as I have found that NiMh battereis do better after a few cycles.

It NO rip off for me!

My grip was $110 at CDW from Mike Dobkin.
Also I got my Nikon EN-EL1's for $20 each.

I haven't gotten it yet- backordered until 8/14 but it was worth 5 batteries- for all mentioned benefits (I hope) :-)
