I'd like to have a little fun with this photo. I'd like to turn back time to the late 1860's when this house was built. This is the Fannie Heck House in Raleigh, North Carolina USA, a late Victorian Second Empire house built in 1869.

This would mean first: Getting rid of the modern building between the tree and the house in the rear, frame-left. Second, getting rid of the cars, frame-right. Third, loosing that white utility cover in the front yard, which covers the base of a small tree and an intricate shadow from the large tree.

I might be able to handle the utility pole and wires behind the cars. I COULD crop to get rid of the red car, but I'd rather not, and I'd still be left with a tough job.

My cloning attempts have frankly yielded dismal results. Is there an easier way to do this? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm using CS5.

Thanks!

Tom

This is not just a cloning job and the image is too small to do a good job - for me anyway. Post a link to a larger image and you may get better results.

... I haven't dealt with the building on the left. You might just show sky.

Cheers, Tony.

My large image in the OP is a DPreview gallery image. You should be able to click on the image and it will expand to the original size.

I like the way you just extended the tree to eliminate the modern building. That would most likely be my choice, too.

Could use a little more work but I have to run. :o)

...here's what I came up with. I always intended to do a sepia so color imperfections became less important.

I like the cloudy sky that some of you put in and I can't remember how that's done...I read about it a few years back.

I suspect that work like this might be easier with a Wacomb tablet rather than a mouse.

Thanks for all the help!

First try using demo

I meant to add how do I get the grass where the street was not to look obvious that it was added?

I don't really think it looks that obvious actually, other than a slight rise toward the house but that may not be unrealistic.

I decided to keep the road in my version which is sepia. If I wanted it to remain color I would have had to make the road look like a dirt road.

It appears you put an entirely different tree between the house and the large oak tree at frame left. That's cool! That's the area that I'm least satisfied with in my sepia version.

...is artistry!

I'd LOVE to have a tutorial on how this was done.

Thanks for posting and doing all that fine work!
