I was thinking to get S95 but I wthink I will buy samsung WB2000 and wait for S95 successor with Full HD support.

Video and Picture quality is importnat for me. I bought lattely Nikon P300. Video was perfect, but images was not so good.
What you think?

I think the Nikon p300 is the best you're going to get for best image quality with HD video right now in any camera smaller than micro four thirds or a dslr.

It's impossible to say if a s95 successor would have full hd video or not...it might not. Supposedly the sensor isn't capable of doing that much video. Other theories abound that Canon doesn't want to compete with their camcorder line. Whatever the reason, it may remain the case that if you want top image quality you have to forgo hd video, and if you want top video quality you have to forgo top still image quality.

From what I've skimmed CCD sensors aren't capable of 1080 HD throughput of any kind of acceptable frame rate. So if video is your priority, forgo thinking a CCD equipped camera will have it.

In my experience, "1080P Full HD" is a bit of a marketing gimmick. Yes, there's technically more lines of resolution, but the aggressive compression (artifacts), small sensors, hybrid photo/video systems, lack of real manual control all play a role in deteriorating the overall video quality.

For me, 1080P just means I'll see the compression artifacts that much clearer on the big screen. :) Unless you need to match source media from another camera (like I try to do with a Full HD Canon HF-11), then there might not be a whole lot of value in the 1080P compacts over 720P. This is up to debate of course, similar to any megapixel debate. :)

My best guess is that you did not spend enough time learning how to use the P300 properly and/or that your expectations from non DSLR cameras might be too high.

The test showed pretty good results from the P300...with tradeoffs between it and the excellent S95/LX5. The differences in IQ don't appear to be large.

For full HD the CCD sensor will not be an option for the follow up to the S95. Tradeoffs...

So far I ordered yesterday Samsung Wb2000 (TL350).

I had coolpix P300 for two days and returned it to the shop. It had noise already at ISO 160. Lack of iso 100 and 80 like others have.

LOL! You returned the P300 and bought a camera with the slightly older version of the same Sony cmos backlit sensor the P300 uses expecting to get better image quality out of it? That's...pretty funny....

I agree. I was hesitant to get the S90 because of VGA video. But with the bigger sensor and less noise, the VGA video scaled to near 200% looks as good as the 720p from my other compacts. The video on the S95 and LX5 at 720p is probably giving more actual detail than 1080p from a mushy CMOS.

Not so fast to conclude .....

...you just relinked to the review you posted earlier which doesn't say anything about the tl350.

Yes, the difference is that P300 have 12Mpixels with the same size sensor. Samsung have 10MP. Therefore I think that Samsung will have at least the same quality of picture as P300. Is it not true?

The positive about Samsung it could be that you can still use photos from ISO 400. P300 start from ISO 160 with already not so good image.
Samsung do raw also.

I am only afraid that samsung will do not so good hd films with good sound like P300.

I am really confused now. Shell I send back Samsung WB2000? Do you think that image quality will worst that från P300????

Please give me advice.

Get the Samsung. I wanted to buy the p300 but after seeing the samples I will NOT buy that camera. Look at the samples at 100%. Terrible! Much more like a watercolour-painting than a photo. How can Nikon produce such terrible picturefiles? The files from the Samsung looks many times better!

I've looked at the p300 samples and own an s95, and I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you just being overly sensational for effect, or what?

Between the s95 and the p300, so far (we'll have more info once there's more studio shots) they look like there's only a tiny bit of difference. And since the s95 is the current top dog for image quality...

I got samsung 2hours ago. It is crap. I shoot 50 images and almost non of them look good. Very bad. I tested all indoor. It supposed to be used only indoor. No pictures was sharp

Just have a look at the samples here:

Just returned P300 due to focus hunting problem. 40% of the time P300 couldn't lock the focus. Pictures are sharp and colours are fine, but very noisy. 800 iso is almost not usable.

After trying s95 (overexposed in sunlight), Oly XZ-1(very soapy images, due to HUGE noise reduction) I got G12 and very hapy with everything except size:) (this is camera for my wife;)

Good to know about WB2000:

You can film when charging, thus if you want film for longer time you do not need to warry about battery. You can charge it via usb or run on usb only.

I appreciate you responding courteously and with a link.

However, those were the comparison pics I looked at - specifically the one with trees outdoors taken both with a p300 and with an s95, and I do not see more than a slightly difference in detail between the two.

Are you thinking of a different picture? I'm not seeing it in those.

Also - see no pictures whatever from Samsung on that page.

There are some parts of the image that are similar, but compare the grass for example.

Also, P300 does not support RAW, so this is the best you are going to get from it. The RAW files on both the S95 & LX5 will give you better results than the sample JPEG shown here.
