I have the option of buying a Contax mount Carl Zeiss Planar 1.7 T* (with a Contax 167 body) for $200. A mount conversion will cost another $100.

From what I have read, the Planar 1.7 is stellar, even wide open. Is this worthwhile thing to do? Will the IQ be better than a standard Nikkor 1.4?

I like playing with unusual combinations and have just fitted a Tamukar 28mm lens on my D50 with great results. It works even better on my D3.

The iq will be different than the Nikkor (Im happy to say). Its a character lens and has it in buckets. The bokeh is very unusual on this lens and happens to be a stunning portrait lens.

well thats debatable but the effect wide open can certainly be desirable.

There are two versions of the Planar, AE and MM but coming from the 167 I guess you can assume AE.

Ive been looking at this and the 1.4, I have a small shopping list I'm working my way through and have been comparing the CY's to the ZF 50f1.4
