Always the case it seems. Even when released. No white EPL-1 either on Amazon.

That's what I do with my girlfriend. She thinks my cameras all look alike anyway, so I just start using it and she thinks it's the camera I've always been using. I did the same thing when I upgraded my iPod Touch to the latest model. Just put the old one away and started using the new one.

I have been burned in the past by being over zealous in getting a camera I really wanted! So, if you read this, I am trying to save you from parting with $499. The reason? Look for it to drop in similar fashion to Samsung TL500 and Panasonic LX5. A $100 drop, and more, is significant given the introductory prices for these cameras.

After saying this, if you do decide you "gotta have it!" enjoy the camera and premium.

Price aside, I would like to see a full test or two on it. If first impressions are correct, it is good but may fall short of being near the top of the advanced camera line.

Actually, it is quite opposite: relatively old, not naïve for last 25 years or so, married not once and for a long time every time and went very deep with camera purchasing. ☺

Hang in there! Just delay gratification for a few months to see what the reviewers and users say about it compared to LX5,s95, EX1 or until the demand drops, the supply increases and the price drops to a more affordable level, say, $399.

Sadly, I want the white one. The upshot is if it is delayed I might end up waiting for a review or two before buying it.

I'm new to the Olympus biz, so does anyone know how long it usually takes them to deliver cameras for retail after they have been announced? (historically speaking that is, I'm well aware that there is no official date for the XZ-1)

Some sites are saying that the XZ-1 will start delivering at the beginning of March, but it could be sooner. I hope.

I was able to buy a white one from an amazon.com merchant early this week. When I saw it I just ordered it 'cause I've been looking everywhere online (US) for it. It's so hard to find online and seems to get sold out fast.

At that time, there were 3 in stock, 2 of which cost about the same as the least price for the black. So I ordered one of that. Within 30 minutes, the other was sold as well. And the last one left was the one selling for 520++ USD. Later in the day all 3 are gone. Now I only see one being sold and it's at 800++ USD. Gaah.

So I do hope they deliver a white one next week.
