E5 Moire - updated - Fabric shots detail-

Then they are no good - we will simply get what I already got on that downsized one, moire eliminated and what under it is revealed. The ribbon example however makes me think it's not that simple - absence of the detail in your shot could be caused by something else, like for instance slight misfocus noticeable only on such fine pattern as that fabric.

What we need is a file(s) where moire is obviously there but the underlying pattern and detail is unharmed and can be revealed by elimination of moire without" such methods as simple blurring or desaturation. I remember seeing an image with vent grids on the floor for instance.. that should be a good sample, can't seem to find the thread now though.

A member with a name something like "Tokyo Joe" posted images of a vent in a wall that contained moire. He took these at one the early preview events in Japan.

He has brought it up a couple times in this forum. I think he did also add that input to a previous incarnation of Chan's moire threads.

thank you, Chris_in_Osaka posted them at http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1022&message=36581153 . Smallish file, but here is what I could do with it.

Fixed:

Color part is eliminated. There is some barely noticeable pattern there still but I can't tell the origin of it - I started with highly compressed 100% crop, merely 480x359, 69 KB. Alternatively, it could have been there in reality, possible to see with naked eye.

All in all, so far it works. Still hope to find a few full size files to work out all possible variations.

This isn't a specific E-5 issue, so any photo with false colour moire should be usable for your purposes.

You could ask for such samples on the other forums, too.

I guess I am not that eager that I'd run around other forums asking for samples... ;) It's for me rather a matter of mutual help with what is proclaimed to be a somewhat larger issue for E-5 with its thinner AA filter. I doubt it is but just in case it's nice to work out solution. Thus, if someone runs into it or I encounter it, I'll investigate it further.

So far I am optimistic - that ribbon sample is a beauty in that it had both strong rainbow-colored moire and very fine colored detail under it. To eliminate the moire without harming detail and without resorting to desaturation is looking like a solution.
