Just got my 60D this evening, gave the battery a quick charge and took a few shots. I was quite impressed with the camera and the 15-55mm f2.8! The photos at 1/10 sec were great. Will up load as soon as I figure out how the Canon software works, have to read the instruction book.
Thanks for all the help from the forum members.

I used to have E510 with a bunch of lenses. Would like to know your thoughts on E510 v 60D. Thank you.

Hey there. Congradulations on your purchase. Good to hear you are enjoying it. The 60D is awesome. You do not need yet to understand the software to get your pictures going. If you have a card reader or you can just plug in the usb cord and upload straight to your computer if they are jpegs. If you shot in raw, the 60D can process raw files into jpegs on the camera just so you can show us your photos quick. :-D.

Dpreview is nice that it allows you to upload your jpegs straight to the site in your gallery area from your computer. No links needed.

Darkness is the monster and your shutter is your sword, aperture your shield and iso your armor. Strike fast with your sword and defend well with your shield and hope your armor holds up.

How is this different from shooting RAW and JPG at the same time? Just curious...

i can give you my opinion ..excuse rambling as i just jot down what comes to me

i was a former olympus user who left when i saw 4/3 format from olympus was evolving to exclusively the m4/3 .. so i sold old gear.. wouldn't be here even answering this if olympus would have made me feel that i wouldn't be abandoned

i had 510 ..then 520 .. then 620 ... all great cameras and all different ..each requiring unique tweaks to get the most out of the camera .. the guru Wrotniak was the bible ( some o f my pics in gallery are from my olympus gear)

i would guess if you were a jpg shooter you might notice

can't match the sharpness of 510 ..BUT the sharpness comes at the price of blowing out highliight .. personally i don't see it, but the experts have always said so

after that

2. the exposure/metering of the 60D is way better

3. you have usable/enjoyable high iso on the 60D
.. no comparison

4. the 60d is much heavier, but it feel good to hold... suggest you go out and hold one

5. i really don't see the olypmus kit lenses being so superior as the olympians like to say.. they may be right .. i just don't see it.. ( i had 14-42, 40-15, 70-300, 9-18 ..all great). i can say with canon (or nikon) you now have a world of lenses to choose from

6. the reolution is technically greater for the 60D .. s

7. you may need to get use to the 1.6 crop factor v. the 2.0 crop factor

8. with the 60d you don't have the olympus in body stabilization... you'll need to get it in the lenses .. thus the greater expense..

if i was to summarize everything, i'd say with the 60d, you're tweaking days are gone and welcome to the world of useable higher iso

Well its not much different. But say if you just shoot raw and while you are out and about and need/or want to turn maybe 5 of your 100 shots into jpegs really quickly, you can. Then when you get home, if your not in the mood to do raw conversion or at a friends home who doesn't have any software, you can just upload the jpegs you created in your camera. This means you do not have to shoot 100 raw and 100 jpeg... but just select the ones you want at the moment and turn to jpeg just for quick use.

Let me add, do not convert 100 raw into jpegs on your camera. lol, it will take forever. But if you just want to grab say your 5 best raw off your camera before you get a chance to process, you can do so.

I'm in total agreement with you. I also came from an E-510 for the same reasons. I got my 60D maybe 3 weeks ago and I'm having a ball. Focus is fast, sharpness is a non-issue and all the other things you said.. It is heavier but I'm adapting to it. I go out for a mile or so walk almost daily with it to adjust to the weight.

I got it with the 17-85 mm for nearby use and the 70-300 mm IS USM for longer. I agree the crop factor of 2 is hard to beat but I'll be OK with the 1.6. I'm also amazed at the high ISO I can use with hardly any noise. I did one yesterday at 2500 and it only needed a touch correction in LR3. I'd also add, no more blown out pictures.
