I am planning a trip to Las Vegas and would appreciate information relating to the new Hoover Dam bridge. I have read that there is a spectator area that you can walk out on the bridge. However, I would like to know if the are sites to view the bridge from a distance so I can photo the bridge itself, not just take photos from the bridge.

Also, has anyone stayed at motels close to the bridge rather than stay in Las Vegas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bob

Bob,

You can walk the entire length of the bridge facing the dam. The are several places past the dam to park and take pictures of the bridge. The first picture was taken on the dam. It is a great place to visit.

Looks like water levels are still pretty low.

Thanks for the input and photos. I will be shooting with a 5DII and I have a 24-105. a 70-200, 50 1.4. a 17-40 and a 100-400. What lenses did you use and what should I plan for in the way of lenses. Also, since the bridge is still lower than the surronding area, what time of morning is best for photos?

Well, sunrise this time of year is about 7:20 AM so I would give it about an hour or so. On the other hand, it is a beautiful place and being a bit early provides the opportunity to enjoy the scene before you shoot. I shot with the 24-104 f/4 lens on a 1D4. It is barely wide enough. I would also recommend the 17-40, 16-35 or similar lenses also.

Nice pics I was there 2-3 years ago when the new bridge was just starting to be built. As for the water level, I'm not sure how low it is. Where you see the lighter colored walls on the hills, that's when the water was higher and sucked the copper or something out of the rock (according to our tour guide). Was the water unusually higher then, or is it way too low now? Probably both.

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely is helpful in planning my visit. One other question, does anyone know of any viewing sites where you can view the bridge with the dam in the background?

Thanks Again,

Bob
