I have been trying to find out if the subject website is a scam or not.
I really think it is... does anyone have any first hand experience?

Thanks, Franck

as opposed to:

Very different aren't they? I think both re not very legit looking. But neither one is listed in resellerratings.com, which is not a good sign either. Stay away.

I have not had specific dealings with this site but I have had similar savings from camera purchases on the web but considering the battle it took, the month of international phone calls and the threats of legal action just to get information on "my" cameras location, it wasn't worth the stress. And that was a good outcome, I actually got the camera (even though it was damaged). I could have just as easily lost my money.

...oh, and I see by the lack of responses that I am right yet again.

Hi,

I am the owner of http://www.justcanon.com which is an official UK based Canon e-tailer. We have been a Canon reseller for the past fifteen years.

A few weeks ago we were informed of a site called justcanon.net which I am sure must be a scam site because they are advertising product at about 2/3rds of the official Canon Dealer cost price.

We informed Canon UK of this and we have put a warning on our site http://www.justcanon.com .

Some customers have been contacting us enquiring as to where there goods are which they ordered on justcanon.net and have never received their order. We have advised anyone who has ordered goods from justcanon.net to stop their credit/debit card payment immediately, and if the believe they have been a victim of fraud, then they should contact the police.

We have also found out that this "rogue" site also has a site registered as justnikon.net again offering products at prices considerably lower than the dealer prices.

All we can advise is that if it seems too good to be true - it usually is!.

We are very sorry if anyone has been taken in by this fake site but it completely outside of our control here at http://www.justcanon.com which is part of a company called Freehand which has been in business for the past 25 years.

I am happy to answer any questions if I can help anyone and I can be contacted on 01483 200111 or by email to [email protected].

Thank-you.

My attitude is....RUN...as fast as you can....and deal with legit and properly established places. If it's too good to be true...it usually is.

Unfortunatelly, I have paid nearly 500 euros to juscanon.net ... It is half my salary and while my order status is "order shipped", dhl express claims that they don't have any shipping with my name. The phone number of justcanon.net is answered only by an answering machine and they won't answer any of my mails. I am afraid I have been scammed, tempted by the low prices. How could I demand my money back? Is there any hope? i am from Greece and I really don't have any axperience in jurist processes. I could use some help... Thanks in advance.

Fifteen years ago I was counseling clients to register their "Web names" on each top level domain as it became available, e.g., .com, .net, .biz, .info, etc. The resulting confusion can create problems quickly.

A good reputation takes years to earn and only a minute to lose.

Probably ought to avoid trying to register at .mil, though.

That's still good advice. The vast majority of Web users don't understand the domain naming system or URL construction. It's a whole lot easier if we don't ask them to.

In addition to consumers, those of us with Web businesses can take this as an opportunity to learn.

And best of luck to those who were fooled. I hope there's some recompense.

I honestly don't understand how someone can throw that much money away without checking the reputation of the website they are using. I really don't mean to offend you, but it seems like a moronic thing to do. Contact your bank and see if they can help you.

Bummer.

That must leave you in a bit of a predicament! If I were justcanon.com I would want to own justcanon.co.uk and justcanon.net as well. I am surprised that you didn't register those along with you original domain.

You could probably get ownership of the justcanon.net domain as their use clearly infringes on your name, but then, would you want your site to be associated with the scam site? I would suggest that you contact nominet and try to take possession of the domain, or wait until the registration is due and try to register it first and then post a big notice about justcanon.net being a scam site and having no connection to justcanon.com
