Hi... I have been trying to get the blurred background affect when taking portraits with the G2 without success. The background is always so vivid that it totally distracts the picture of the person being taken. Is there a setting that I can do to change this? I tried setting it to the smallest aperture (2.2?) in Av mode then zooming all the way in, but it still does not do the trick. Sometimes, it just makes the picture look washed out. Thanks for any help in advance.

Make sure your subject is far from the background. That will help also.

Did you just try the portrait mode? Supposed to do it automatically. Have tried it several times and usually works.

yes, and move as close to the subject as posible. Add a teleconverter and it is easy to do.

I took this photo of my youngest daughter two days before I received my D60. Blurring can be done under the right circumstances. She was seated on a step and the background is a pond side behind my sister's house. She was a good distance from the background -- I was zoomed all the way with the native lens only.

A vivid background makes me suspect that the autofocus has caused the camera to focus at 66 meters instead of at the proper distance. Several posters have mentioned this problem when trying to take portraits with the G2 and I've encountered it as well.

To determine whether focus distance is the cause, look at the EXIF distance data associated with the image. The only way I know of to see this information is to download BreezeBrowser from http://www.breezesys.com . I have no association with this outfit, just use the software. They have a trial version that would work for your purposes.

I hope you find the answer.
