Hey all.

I wonder if it is a good idea to buy the new and fast 90 MB/s cards.

I got the "old" 5D and firmware 1.1.1.

It supposed to support

Anyone tried some cards with 32 or 64 GB on 5D?
They are not supported - I know.

What are your experiences ?

Best regards

the 5D has a max writespeed of 8 MB/sec (courtesy Rob Galbraith) so any old card will do. The only advantage a faster card gives is the card to computer transfer.

16 GB does work, haven't tried 32 or more.

I wouldn't get the cheapest -- get a mid-range quality from a well known brand. I like Kingston 133X. I've only used 8GB as the top in my 5DmkI -- without video, that is an awful lot of images. I've never used an additional card on an assignment shooting RAW, but I'm not shooting 1000s of images at at time. Check the capacity for 13MP images on a 8GB card. 16GB would be as much as any sane person would ever need. ;)

I'm only using Sandisk cards from here on out. I've had properly formatted Lexar and Kingston cards corrupt on me but never with Sandisk, and I've used the 9 Sandisk cards I have far more than those other ones.

I don't see any difference with my Ultra II and Extreme III cards on the 5D. Both are pretty cheap these days.
