what photoshop technique is being used?

What is the name of this technique in photoshop called? so I can at least give a try to google... Or if you have any links on how to perform this touch that would be really good :)

Also, the color seems a bit stronger, say the yellow color before and left and right. Is this kind of contrast changes?

Sorry I am quite new to photoshop.
 
Copied the original 'before' to a new layer and started with the curves adjustment shown and then additional curves adjustments for lighting, color and saturation, lighting, etc., removing any over-effect with a black brush. Used the healing brush on the blemishes.

It's just making the photo look 'better'. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm thinking you might need a good book on photo retouching.

I'd recommend the Scott Kelby books. They aren't real strong on theory and background information, but they list the kind of things that you can do to a photo and then give you step by step instructions. It allows you to sort of 'jump in' to photo editing right away. You can always learn the theory later if you are so inclined.
