Not sure if these birds exist anywhere outside the UK - but they are tiny and move very quickly. Have been trying for a while to get a decent photo of one and now (hopefully )finally succeeded. Slightly over sharpened admittedly but its one of my favourites- hope you enjoy.

Good picture of that little bird!

I can see them over here, too, but I don´t think I have any picture so far.

Troglodytes troglodytes, German name is Zaunkönig (the king of the fence). And that is exactly where I see him now and then, on the fence or near the fence, usually relatively close to the ground.

We have "Wrens" here in the states, (at least thats what we call them) and they look exactly like the bird in your photo, and they are tiny..

We had a Wren family in a nest less than 6 inches from our back door, the busiest door on our house, at chest level.. so they are apparently very brave...

Either the nest was taken over by a second wren family, or the mother raised a second brood, because there were two batches of babies this summer... Im assuming two batches to the same family.

In the early part of the season, the female Wren (or at least the one that does most of the "egg sitting") will come up to the window right next to me and peck at the glass when the nearby feeders are empty..

Nice closeup of the bird in its habitat...good background too. What camera and lens did you use? I often use the Zuiko 70-300mm lens for my birding expeditions.

I used the 70-300mm Zuiko which I love but was really lucky with this shot as I was just looking out the bedroom window into the conifer tree right next to my house- this enabled me to have a really solid stance and steady hand which I don't usually get when I'm out in the field birdwatching (another of my hobbies) = interseting to hear that these birds seem fairly common all accross the world

Another great shot that could grace a christmas card.

For the record, we don't have Wrens here in Godzone, but we do have these :

Thanks for your great picture, love it.

Oh White Rose
skin of alabaster
picturesque
in winters thrall,

I beseech you
smile on all that look,
and honour your essence.

Thanks for the comments folks - Thane didn't realize you were from New Zealand. I've always wanted to visit - must be paradise for photographers and nature lovers- and an excellent rugby side aswel

Beautiful photo, we also have our fair share of wrens in Australia. I fish most weekends at a lake fringed with long grass which is full of cheeky little fairy wrens.

They zip around all over the place and quite often land within feet of where I 'm standing.
The females are brown and the males are a brilliant azure colour.
