Sorry for the title but seems like lately only the doom posts get attentions... :)
I was having some fun with my 7D and thought I share the result.

7D + 60mm Macro and in a few cases 85mm 1.8. The focusing was a bit more trial and error game than the drop shots but I think some turned out pretty interesting... Thanks for looking.
Regards, Attila.

Great results! I especially like #1 & 2. #1 looks almost like a vestige, or a ghost! I watched some of the vids on that technique and think I'm going to try some in the next few weeks... Good Job! :)

Very Cool!

I gotta try that soon!

One question? Tungsten WB?

Thanks for posting...

Unfortunately you are right about needing a "doom" title for attention.

Very cool pictures! Thank you!

Thanks. Yes, first I tried Flash as WB but I liked the Tungsten and Fluorescent more for their contrasty look.... maybe later I will play with them a little more in photoshop...

Good luck guys, it's really fun at least in the beginning then your girlfriend/wife will realize that the flat will smell like wildberry incense and start yelling at you :)...

Beautiful pictures! Did you have to move the incense stick around to get the smoke to form those shapes or is that just natural?

I found that if you use more than flash and put different color gels on them (some times even half and half on one head) you can get some interesting color variations.
Just keep those power settings low.......

I also discovered that if you use a ball head keep the head loose you you can quickly change the angle of the camera of the ever moving smoke to help with your framing.

That is normal for smoke, you just light the sticks and let them burn. Some times they form a very tight spiral.

To be successful you need a very dark area and use low power on your speedlights. Oh yea, no breathing during shooting. You got to learn to hold your breath for a few hours....... ;) Just kidding on that one but any slight breeze such as your breath will alter the smoke.

I like that second one a lot. Maybe at another time I will try the gel on the flash.

Also one can do a lot in Photoshop but has to be careful as the silky parts are very delicate, a little too much contrast or black and they are gone....
