Spotted those this morning. The branchlets were all covered with tiny ice pearls. If you take a closer look you'll see microscopic gas bubbles trapped inside the pearls.

Pic 2 and 3 are cropped down to approx 3 Mpix.

Very nice! Love the reflections... You and Danny are certainly getting the hang of your F300. Keep 'em coming.

Nice, clear pictures.

BTW: Do you know what kind of gas is trapped in there? I'm paying $2.85/gallon now. Maybe we could find a way to squeeze some out. :-))

Wonderful sharp detail Stefan. You have a good eye for detail I see!

Dan.

As a comparison we're paying $7/gallon around here in Sweden. Enjoy your price while it lasts and perhaps read up on economy driving?

The question is still valid. My initial guess would have been normal air, roughly 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. But if the gas bubbels emanated from the plant itself, probably more oxygen.

Ok, these are really nice, almost perfect; this horrible NR that kills everything in other’s poster’s pictures of the F300exr is totally absent…

As I see in the EXIF info they are ISO 200, so tell us the secret did you apply any NR software on them inside the GIMP, and finally what was the camera’s setup…

I'm with you there. My ride is a economical 2003 Corolla and I don't drive unnecessarily. There were seven children in our family and we were brought up with the idea "waste not, want not". It is a good policy. :-)

Thanks for the nice words.

Quick software touchups, but nothing I would call secret or difficult. I consider myself a beginner still, so there couldn't be :-)

There was hardly any noice on the main object, but some on the background so I've denoised the image to get a cleaner background. Levels adjusted to get better "depth" to the colors. USM to get crispy edges no the ice balls.

Please post some more with the specific setup, I was thinking that many users are pressing the camera too much (DR400% maybe – high resolution) and that’s why all these terrible pictures…
Yours are totally different.

I would appreciate very much (and many others too), if you could post some originals without any pp…
Thanks in advance - mike

Here you go. The original for one of the pics in this thread.

Mike,
Take a look at this thread where I've uploaded plenty of originals.

Please not that this isn't really a 100% revealing test of the image quality. I think the camera can deliver quite good images, but of course there is a fair amount of pics that ended up in the trashcan.

Since I know what the camera pukes on I could provoke a few bad ones, like high ISO indoor or low contrast foilage. The example below shows what I refer to as "foam rubber" european spruce. I shot this one to send to Fujifilm when they asked for an illustration of what I meant by NR smearing:

Hey, i'm new here.

i've done a quick search but haven't been able to determine what "NR" is (in reference to "NR smearing"? i've been taking some test shot (i've also just recently bought an F300EXR) and they all look fuzzy-ish, sometimes the camera focuses and sometimes not. admittedly, we've not had good weather lately and i was trying high-ISO settings indoors (which you mention is bad...? i must have heard as akid something about higher ISO which my mind translated to a general "this is better"... clearly i was mistaken)

and i'm curious to know, stefan, did you use a tripod or shutter trigger for your ice images (or images in general)?

you guys will see me around a bit more on the forums as i learn how to use a camera...!

NR = noise reduction

The ice images were all hand-held (actually leaning forward into the bush from a stair).

In general I don't use a tripod with my F300 since I bought it for its convenient portability and I just slip it into my pocket without any extra equipment.

If it's dark and exposure times get longer, I look for something solid to support the camera. Anything will do (handrail, street light, car roof, wall/corner of a building). Either from below or from the side works (but I would have liked the sides of the camera to be completely flat and not slightly rounded).
