I noticed Panasonic are giving away Adobe® PHOTOSHOP® ELEMENTS 9

& Adobe® PREMIERE® ELEMENTS 9 when you purchase one of their camera's and I was wondering if anyone used these packages and what they felt about them.
I need some editing software and wondered if I should go for this promotion.
Thanks

These progs are excellent - everything you should need for Photo editing including RAW.

To be honest, Premiere Elements 7 & 8 were very bloated and slow - and, although I haven't tried 9, the reviews are not good.

To put it into context, I'm using a Quad core machine with 8 Gb ram (although, of course, PE, being a 32 bit app, is using less than half that) - and despite doing everything i could to improve performance (scratch disk on dedicated HD, for example) PE was still pretty glutinous.

I now use Edius Neo - and, believe me, the difference is night and day! - Edius is super fast - renders on the fly, and is a Lamborghini to Adobe's Model-T Ford ;)

I know that it's a 'free' offer - and if you haven't got any editing software, then it will do a decent enough job - providing you're fairly patient, but I wouldn't buy the camera specifically to get it though.

If one was to be mean, it could almost be a good proof even they acknowledge their JPEG is less than good and urge users to use raw :)

It does sound a good bargain, did you find the trial slow to render.

I have a quad core phenom AMD based motherboard and processor and 4gb RAM and found the prg to preform well enough for me, there was some waiting for intensive applications but only when i had many windows and images open at the same time, its difficult to quantify speed as expectations vary.

Guess I need to upgrade my laptop to use the software!
Depends - first, on whether you're planning to use Photoshop Elements, or Premiere Elements.

Obviously, PSE requires a lot less oomph.

All AVCHD editing is hard on home computers - even just plaing native GH1 video (hacked - high bit rate) makes my processor sing after a minute or two ;)

PE just adds to the problem because it's so hopelessly bloated. I like Adobe stuff less and less these days, because they insist upon adding useless layers to just about everything they make.

What's the spec on your laptop?

Usually it's a case of visiting adobe.com and trying to find which version of their RAW converter handles which cameras.

Later cameras need later RAW converters and maybe also later versions of Elements. Though PSE V8 is in the correct time range for E-PL1 I suspect.

Hey, have a look at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4810 to get the download to 6.2 of the RAW converter, it does handle E-PL1 as per the other more complete camera list linked there.

It is very necessary to follow the installation instructions carefully for Elements it seems.

The above is the Windows download link, the Mac link is here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4806

Regards.......... Guy
I have Elements 8 and do not open raw images with it. What am I doing wrong? Do I need something more than the program I downloaded?

I shoot with the ePL-1 camera.

A bit OT, but how does Premier Elements compare to Sony Vegas Studio(the cheapest one came free with my computer)? I have a copy of PS CS4 so I don't need Elements, but if Premier is better than Vegas I may have to do this. Thanks.

Nearly dead....

my ex-wife to be decided I spent more time on it than talking to her so it ended up being thrown.... mmm the good old days lol but it does seem to have slowed down a lot and typing can be fun.

Its a couple of years old and needs to be replaced anyways to run the latest versions of software I use, I guess I was holding out buying a new one as long as I could tolerate so I could purchase more power for the same money.

Looks like this offer may only be available in UK/Europe. Nothing about an offer in N. America.

I think the price has been kept higher in the UK so they can do these promotions, I would much rather pay USA prices any day.
G2 with 14-42 £450 cheapest price not imported ie has a warantee
