Hello, does anyone know if mounting a Nikon 28-300mm lens to a Canon 5D Mark II using a Novoflex EOS/NIK-NT adapter will work?

By "work" I mean if the lens will focus correctly, and if the VR (Vibration reduction and also called "IS" image stabilisation) will work since it takes power from the camera through the adapter as far as I know. Also, if the resulting image quality is as excellent as it should be.

Appreciating any reply from someone who has tried it.

Sure, as long as you turn the focus ring yourself. You'll lose the focus confirmation "dot" if you don't glue a chip onto the novoflex.

doubt it

The IQ will be as good as you can expect for a 28-300, provided you are able to focus it accurately, especially at the short end.

I've never quite understood the idea of superzooms for fullframe SLR's (or at all really), but if you really want to take advantage of the convienience of Nikons new super zoom, the best bet would be buying a D700 or D3X.

The Novaflex adaptor is expensive, there have been historic supply issues plus you lose autofocus and vibration reduction. So not too handy really.

I use adaptors and alternative glass, but more for small primes for landscape where i'm chilling out with my tripod and focussing manually anyway.

Canon do make a 28-300 F3.5-5.6 USM L which will be stabilised and autofocus wonderfully on your camera.

Perhaps it may not be quite as good as the much newer Nikon, but of course quality would not be the number one consideration with such a lens and you would be doing much better with the IS and USM on the Canon.

dont know that adapter but my Voiklander one worked.

and the lens is not at all good enough to be as impoartant as you need to give up AF VR ,etc.

oh no, impossible , there is no such an adapter EOS-Nikon G yet.

Buy a Tamorn 28-300VC, it is optically as good as the Nikon if not better.

I have both + the Nikon 24-120f4VR (expensive travel lens, with crappy IQ)

I will sell those cheap Nikon lenses since they are all craps , my 24-105f4 is sharper than the new nikon 24-120f4VR, and the nikon 24-70 kills this travel lens.

if you use it on the D3s, combined its range +the D3shighISO, you can shoot almost anything you like in real world , so this is an ultimate travel combo for some.

The novoflex was made to adapt the wonderful Nikon 14-24/2.8 to the 5D2 body at the time, originally made by the 16:9 site. There is no power to the lens so no functions will work: AF, IS, aperture. You can manually set aperture with the novoflex using the lever, but it is just guesswork where it really is and you can only work in Manual mode to get the correct lighting.

Me thinks you are looking at this the wrong way. Get a third party lens that will work on the Canon. The Nikon 28-300 is just a very nice superzoom, but not worth the hassle you are talking about.
