Maybe before you exited the brick and mortar store you could have made note of what they were yourself. Even more novel an idea would have been to actually buy them from the brick and mortar store.

Stackers were what the old series held together with the rubber latch were called.

Rankers are the new series that release with a button push.

Great stands if space is at a premium.

Avoid the short Stackers if you plan on putting anything heavier than a speedlight on them.

I have a set of the shorter ones which were 'Stackers'. These have a wire S spring clip to hold them together. They don't make this size anymore, but they are OK for small monolights and a little better than the Manfrotto Nano's which have more flex in the bottom leg. If you're considering trravelling with these then length/weight/height are all important factors to consider, and you may choose to compromise on the stability. I really don't think that 4 Stackers will take up less space than 4 Nano's. They seem fairly even in this quantity and respect.

The thing I don't like about the Stackers is the locking latch on the uprights. For speedlight weights this doesn't cause too much of an issue but with monolights there is a liklyhood that the latches may slip. Manfrotto sell an adjustment tool for this which you might need depending on your application. A screw based lock doesn't need this sort of adjustment.

Theres only one sun. Why do I need more than one light to get a natural result?

Although they have been only 30-40 miles away for the last 25 years I live in the country and they live off 8 lane city streets.

I did place a special order with them and will return to pick it up. So they'll get a shot at my business after I complete my research.

I bought 3 Manfrotto 306B 8' Stacker stands from Calumet for ~$140 thinking I would save space in a larger rolling light case. I don't think they really save much space, and they are also relatively heavy.

I do like the flip lock for the sections. I can guarantee that you will need to tighten the bolts with the plastic tool.
