A few shots of some birds fishing while on a 2 week canoe trip in the BWCA ( http://www.bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=maps.gmap&lat=47.91206&lon=-91.34139&zoom= ) in Northeastern Minnesota USA, one of the last frontiers in the continental USA. I didn't expect perfection while shooting handheld from a canoe in mostly 15-25 mph winds, but was satisfied with the images I brought back. Used D700 & D300S, Nikon 300 2.8 AFS (non VR) Nikon 70-200 VR-l, Nikon TC 1.7, Kenko TC 1.4. Most shots are birds with fish. I brought 6 batteries for the bodies and 16 AA's for the battery grip. Had no electric for trip but used all camera power judiciously and very limited playback. What would I do different next time? Lose the D300S as just too noisy over ISO 200 and crop resolution is very poor. I'll invest in a Nikon 200-400 VR and try the new nikon TC 20 III to see how it fares against my TC17 which I was happy with.

Thanks,

All pics were taken a few weeks ago as EXIF indicates on posted pics.

Great shots! What lake(s)? (I've been in the BWCA quite a bit, adore the place...)

Thanks,

I have a cabin on Lake Vermilion and started here then via portage to trout lake where I got many shots. Then north via Little indian Sioux River and many small lakes in between, like Bootleg, Big Moose lake. Total trip was 58 miles. I found eagles everywhere. I've been exploring the BWCA for over 30 years and have barely scratched the surface of this incredible place unlike anyplace on earth! I've found that everyone I've ever met that came here has been impacted by it's wilderness beauty and most have returned.
