Suggestion camera-phone forum YAY or NAY?

Threads like this in Open Talk will proliferate, not diminish.

There is going to be a deluge of those who claim they don't need a camera. And of course their right. Many people Don't need a camera. But this is a camera forum.

Dave
Isn't this a forum about digital photography though? A phone has a sensor and a lens and quite often, settings for WB, ISO and others... The quality may be suspect and I don't often use the camera in my phone (other than to document something). That said, if someone feels creative and wants to use there iPod or Droid or whatever to take a photographe then so be it. Having a forum to discuss technique and the latest and greatest may be a good fit here at DPR. Of course, that is up to Phil et al.

I mean, what does it matter to you what a person captures a photo with?

Give them their own forum - and I'll never have to see threads about cell phone cams ever again.

Give us an "ignore" option for the cell phone cam form and DPR will have achieved World Peace. ;)

Rethink your last comment.

Inspired by the lumix news surely. The timing is right since many of the recent phones have less awful cameras, actually decent considering the form factor.

The camera-phone forum should be for all brands and cover both photography and processing on those devices.

What say thee? Kindly Answer only Yay or Nay in the topic.

Kindly, if possible be gracious and keep the-my-phone-and-or-camera-can-beat-up-your-phone-or-camera. We do have enough fanboy and troll jihadis.

YAY, its easy to do and hurts no one.
Then should we have a forum for those keychain cameras you see at Walgreens? What about a forum for Fisher Price cameras? There has to be more to merit a forum than simply being a camera.

I don't know any exact numbers but I would imagine there are hundreds of millions of people worldwide that have cameras in their phones. I would also imagine that at least 1% of those users use the cameras quite a bit...probably a lot more than the cameras you suggested. ;-)

A phone camera forum would probably be busier than a few of the camera forums here.

Busy discussing what? The latest and greatest Nokia N8 only has an EC function for exposure. Nearly every other camera phone in existence is 100% automatic. Are you going to discuss techniques for pointing a camera phone? (At least the Fisher Price cameras have viewfinders!)

They could discuss whatever they want, what do they discuss in the camera forums here? Pixel peeping, noise comparison, bla bla bla, same old stuff as other other forum here...

By your logic we should just close all the camera forums here. I mean really, what the heck are you going to be "discussing" exactly about dslr's? They all get nearly the same image quality. If you want quality reviews read the official dpreview review. Otherwise, what are you going to talk about? More "oh god my dslr makes me so much awesomer at photography than everyone else? More "I blew this picture up to 200%, and I can see this tiny bit of detail in one dslr that I can't see in the comparison shot from the other" talk? Hey, maybe we can have another pointless discussion about how some people think their manhood is threatened because the latest Canon dslr doesn't have the magnesium body they wanted, which has no real effect on durability whatsoever. I mean people went on, and on, and on, and on about it, something that is sooooooo completely trivial.

People in a cameraphone forum are going to talk about the same things that people in the other forums are going to talk about.

LOL - Some people just don't get it Paul...

I also think there are a lot of people that are threatened but camera phones for whatever reason, I find it amusing how angry it seems to make people.

What lens would you recomend for low light sports?
How can I get the colors right on this kind of shot?
With a group photo, how do I get no DOF; extended DOF?
What speed for sports, wildlife photography?
What aperture would you recomend for this shot?
I shoot action shots but their boring?
How can I improve this model shoot?
How high can I raise the ISO with xxxx camera to capture this low light scene?
I bought a monopode, what stance will give me maximum stability?

There really are a million things to disuss when shooting a camera.

...I think you took my post the opposite way I intended it. I'm not even sure how you would have done that.

I voted "yes" for the cameraphone forum. I'm saying this idea that "there would be nothing to discuss" in a cameraphone forum by claiming it would be a bunch of silly topics silently ignores the reality of the current camera forums, which are full of "silly" topics themselves.

And if you're going to be puritanical about it, all these questions could be answered in a FAQ without an additional forum.
What lens would you recomend for low light sports?
Which cameraphone has the best camera for low light shots at a party.
How can I get the colors right on this kind of shot?
Ditto for cameraphones.
With a group photo, how do I get no DOF; extended DOF?
Plenty of people will ask this question with their cameraphone to, though the answer is "you can't".
What speed for sports, wildlife photography?
What settings for getting shots without people in them being blurry.
What aperture would you recomend for this shot?
What scene mode would work best for this shot.
I shoot action shots but their boring?
I shoot people at parties with my cameraphone, but the pictures are always blurry.
How can I improve this model shoot?
How can I improve my daylight shots with my cameraphone.
How high can I raise the ISO with xxxx camera to capture this low light scene?
ditto with a cameraphone.
I bought a monopode, what stance will give me maximum stability?
How can I best stabilize my cameraphone at a low shutter speed. Obviously can't use a tripod.
There really are a million things to disuss when shooting a camera.

:D I read it correctly, my apologies, sarcasm doesn't come across well online sometimes...

I fully agree with what you have to say, I think a camera phone forum would be fine as well.
