S95 : Shooting in HD and at Night !

.

That is a marvelous video. Not only showing off the ability
of the S95, but intriguing in itself. Amazing pocket camera.

thanks !

Your showing offs keep making me hard to simply wait for the G12, but I don't think I will have to get both the G12 and the S95. That will make me feel stupid enough! ;-o)

Not too unhappy of the result :

The more I use it, the more I like it :)

The more i see your footage the closer i get to getting even more in debt lol.

Thanks for posting this. I think its helped me make my mind up its time to replace my ancient S90 now.

Ive been holding out getting a new camera as HD video is really important to me so i was thinking of getting a Lumix of some sort as ive had good results before, but the stills side has always been a let down, at least compared to my S90.

Last year i made the decision to give up HD over better stills, and even the SD video of the S90 is pretty decent. But now it seem like you can have your cake and eat it.

No zooming looks much more professional. Plus no re focusing issues as people walk in front of the camera. Just as it should be.

Wind noise still a curse -- just like my G10. Don't know what Canon can do about it -- maybe some sort of screw-in wind shield?

And isn't there a law about low shooting angles in Japan!

I noticed the dreaded CCD blue/purple lines in the video. Its a shame but unavoidable I guess.
It seems better than the TZ7 though so it wont put me off.

Probably going to order mine on monday. And being almost identical to the S90 my girlfriend wont notice i have a new camera ;-)

More footage always welcome and thanks for what we have already seen.

Unlike yourself, no one else is shooting the next episode of House with their s95. They just want to record some stuff to watch later.
Plus no re focusing issues as people walk in front of the camera.
You mean people that you want to be in focus?
Just as it should be.
I disagree. I would say, though, that especially with a small sensor compact with a large depth of field, that I'd rather have no autofocus than really crappy autofocus that I can't turn off.

I'm kind of tired of both side of the debate. On a small sensor compact, no autofocus isn't the end of the world. But I'm also tired of hearing how it's not "professional" - people aren't shooting professional video with their s95 either way.

And unlike you no one person is pretending to speak for everyone.

Why do people like yourself always assume everyone wants jerky out of focus, sick inducing zooming in and out all the time? The footage posted in this thread isnt a blockbuster or an episode of house is it? It looks very well shot and there is no shame in putting a bit of effort in to your filming.

Nope, i mean when someone who isnt supposed to be in the shot walks past the camera and throws the focusing out.
Just as it should be.

Im not sure about this comment. Thats exactly what im getting at in my comments above. We cant be agreeing so im missing something.

I understand what your saying but your not talking for everyone.

You only have to look on Vimeo (for example) to see how peopel are using DSLR's for video. Not everyone, or even maybe most but certainly not everyone wasn't to zoom in and out during filming.

I would have thought that with the S90/95 being aimed at the more serious, creative types (for stills) these people do appreciate a pro looking result. And lets face it, from a camera like this its never going to approach pro quality anyway.
