R. I. P. Olympus?

In any case, next time you go in for a colonoscopy, take note of the brand name on the endoscope--and be glad that Olympus likes to make things small.

reported for what? I'm betting he's right. Olympus's best hope now is to be bought out by pany. If pany is going to keep a strangle hold on the best senors for themselves it's only a matter of time before oly goes under... question is does pany need oly for anything?

Olympus is much, much bigger than just their DSLRs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of their smaller market segments.

reported for what?
For Flame bait / Trolling / Abusive.

Well, considering that Olympus is a bigger, more diversified, more profitable company than Nikon, even if Olympus stops making cameras altogether, they're not going to get bought out by anyone.

True. I meant buying the camera division. An important distinction. Panasonic would have no use for the entire company (not enough synergy). Essentially I imagine that the olympus name will hold some value in camera circles for a bit. But unless Pany see's some use for traditional 4/3 lenses I doubt they'd be willing to carry the torch.

Not my thread but you are correct, Planet of the Apes. I'd rather say that
"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore"

Well, yes and no...they sold the medical line. They screwed that one up too :-)
Actually, Olympus only sold their laboratory diagnostics branch. They still have the market cornered on endoscopy and dedicated voice recorders, and they still are very relevant in medical and industrial imaging technologies and other surgical products.

I was just looking at my issue of Pop Photo Magazine that just came in the mail. In the mag they had a picture of a minature camera that you swallow, it was developed by you guessed it, Olympus. I don't think Oly is going anywhere and just what in the heck is wrong with the new E5?

Quit being so dramatic. It's not that bad.

Actually, it's the best 4/3 model yet.
