Best way to transfer photos to PC w/ auto rotate?

Hey folks,

I've tried to use the included software with the k-x to transfer photos to the PC and it seems rather clunky and doesn't rotate jpg images automatically. Can anyone suggest a better method/software for transferring images to the PC that has a lossless auto rotate feature?

Thanks!

I thought one of the features left off the K-m/K-x was the orientation sensor and without that to mark the orientation in the EXIF, you are stuck doing the rotation by hand. Maybe I'm wrong?

Thank you
Russell

The K-m lacks the orientation sensor, but the K-x has it.

for the OP: if the picture is rotated correctly the camera, then it should remain so when transferred to your computer, no matter how you do the transfer. I am not aware of any transfer software that would go out of its way to delete the rotation info. So the problem isn't the transfer software. The problem is the program you are using to view the software is apparently not paying attention to the rotation info within the image. If it's even half-decent viewing program, chances are it has an option to honor to the rotation info when displaying image - you will just have to consult the documentation for your software to find the option.

EDIT: I should mention that it is possible for transfer software to look at the rotation info and then actually rewrite the entire image file rotated in the specified direction. That way even "dumb" programs that don't know how to look at the rotation info will be able to display the images correctly. But actually rewriting the image files on import takes (somewhat) longer, plus it just seems like bad policy to me to ever mess with your original image data, even if just to rewrite it rotated.

I prefer not to activate the orientation setting, because some ediding software recognize it, some other not (photoshop, graphic converter, my TV, etc...). I prefer rotate the pictures myself in photoshop so that they will remain vertical in all softs.

In that case, you would be a good candidate for using transfer software that does rotate and rewrite your image files automatically on import - you'd get the same reuslts but you wouldn't haver to spend the time selecting the photos for rotation. Does Bridge not have such an option?
