Hi all,

I have recently bought the excellent Samsung EX1. I would like to know how to check the firmware version but it is not mentioned in the instructions. I have contacted Samsung UK but unfortunately, they don't seem to be familiar with there products. I would like also to know the availability of accessories such as, viewfinder and wide angle lens.

Thanks in advance.

You find the firmware version in the exifs
What EXIF program in particular ??

I have Opanda Exif and one or two others that give simple main EXIF details but NONE that I've tried on 'originals' from the EX1 do show Firmware version.

Surely there must be button-push settings that show this - as with a number of other cams that I've done this with ???

I check EXIF with the software that comes with it Samsung Raw Converter 3 and shows version 0221. Whatever it means is beyond me ! Also I check with my Corel Paintshop Pro X3 and shows the same version #.

I have a few EXIF viewers on but not that one - so I've just added it.

Good one..but I've got a lot of EX1 pics I've d/loaded for trials and checks and NONE of them seem to show a true Firmware data.

On the Firmware line in the display it either shows nothing (just a short dash-line) or in some cases it actually shows the edit program with which the pic was done.. such as Picasa (in one case) or CS5 .. or some other odd figures on many of the dpR samples in the review..very odd that...
But NOT the actual Firmware version ....

So the question still is...how DO you show the current camera FW ???

Initiate the upgrade process, and the first screen will tell you?

A bit drastic, true!

My early EXIF info did match the firmware version shown in the first screen when I upgraded. Haven't checked it since though.

When I recieved the EX1 I installed the latest firmware 1005251. All the jpegs I take show this in the exif.
Can you tell me please - just what progs are you using to show EXIF .. and which appear to show the EX1 EXIF. Presumably such prog should show the FW on ANY EX1 pic.. but I have a few very good and well-known/used EXIF progs yet none seem to show the FW version number on ANY of the variety of EX1 pics I've d/loaded.

Even Opanda does not seem to show it.. I'd just like to know exactly how to see/check the FW on any - at any time ...

As an addition...the reason I ask this is simply that if I do go ahead and get the EX1 it would be sensible and useful to be able to see the 'then' FW on a camera out of the box...without having to think of any then FW update ..IF it were necessary.

It could of course also be an indication as to how update stock the so-called 'new' camera really is !!

Eric -

I tried that prog... but it didn't give me the actual FW. It does include a line for FW but in that , all I got was either a dash (no detail) or in a few cases the name of the Software that had been used ... odd if YOU get different.. the pics I tried it on were in some cases supposed to be as shown in Forum posts and said to be OOC.. NOT processed and as some do .. takes out the EXIF anyway

Thanks! Eric.

My freeware version of Opanda does NOT show Firmware or shooting mode. But this software showed my FW version as 1005065, Shooting Mode, and other pertinent information. Time for me to update FW.
I salute the author.

Jim -

OH !!..so that 1005065 IS the FW is it... That makes sense now,as a few of the dpR review samples I tried, did show a funny long number like that.. and what is being touted NOW as latest FW is of course just the last 4 digits.. and THAT I think is what threw me.the shorter number is the only thing I'd seen

What I got it in WAS that EXIF Viewer prog.. and it IS quite a good and fully detailed one. Opanda is still a good one as I'm sure it is now just as it was long ago - you CAN with that , change quite a few of the EXIF details.. usually what most would want to change CAN be done..even in the free one
