It is amusing to see how just recently FF was all the rage and now, suddenly, APS-C is just so amazing. :-)

For many people FF is out of their price range. If they do a FF model roughly the size of the NEX cameras and keep the price at or under $1,000 it will be insanely popular.

Well the FF A90 has better Jpegs & handles manual lenses better than the NEX .....Oh wait a minute , it doesn't !

APS-C is amazing, considering the size of NEX. I love my A900, and the NEX will be a perfect compliment for times when the size of the A900 doesn't make sense to bring with me. The best camera is the one you have with you.

Of course, if NEX was fullframe with offset microlenses like the M9, I'd be even happier.

Would love a FF NEX, if the price was right. I believe the price could be
around 1000$. But the NEX mount is not made for FF Sony said, so
not sure if yet a new mount would be required. If so, I don't expect it
to come this year :)

But APS-C is also nice. For me I get the DOF control I need, and the latest
Sony cameras also got good high ISO performance.

I believe one day we will have small FF cameras also. Like Leica, but not
that price. Just wonder how small they will be, and same with the lenses.

well the lenses won't be small, with all the auto focusing, anti shake stuff in them, the M-mount is manual focus so the can be alot smaller

I think the people who wanted FF got what they were looking for in the A900 and A850. Those using APS-C are still looking for a replacement for the A700, and on top of that the NEXs' simply are the latest really new additions so they cause the most traffic.

I don't really see that people who were attracted to FF should have had any reason to change their minds recently?

I'd prefer my DSLR without video, thank you.
I know it has uses, but not for me.

Still waiting for the A9X0 with LV and HD video, although I will be getting the NEX. Would be nice if there is a FF NEX too!

Henry:

Not sure if you are serious and you did ask the question but the reasons for full frame at least from my perspective have not changed with the "advances in APS sensors".

I'll probably be getting a NEX though because of the step away from the mirror and off-the-screen metering.

For general photography (landscapes, portraits, low light) FF is the way to go.
For portability or birding, cropped cameras are better.

The NEX lens mount leaves room for a full frame sensor. Sony is not going to limit itself the way Olympus did. A full frame NEX is undoubtedly in the pipeline.

whether its FF, or APS-C or 4/3 ...

and the recent rage is not about APS-C its about the form factor of a LCD Liveview mirrorless, and it had nothing nto do with the sensor size. its about the camera form factor. and M4/3 or rather the E-Pen and GF-1 brings upon that

I am just wondering how those who hold best-of-the-best IQ in such overwhelming regard as to need FF and anguish over which of the CZ/G lenses is topmost best and worry about other sometimes very minor differences in lenses, sensors, etc. will ever be satisfied with APS-C and so-so NEX lenses?

I will try to answer the question part of your post "satisfied with APS-C and so-so NEX lenses" without considering myself a member of the target group defined above, as I shoot APS-C and FF, in one word: Convenience.

The NEX adds DSLRs IQ (be it APS-C or FF) to a camera real estate (body + lens package size) that allows to be taken along anytime, any day, something I and many others obviously always wanted for convenience . But the market offerings so far were not to many IQ likings. The NEX delivers that IQ and adds the convenience of potentially using A-Mount glass, should the "so-so NEX lenses" not deliver in critical situations.

It is likely that the A7xx and A8xx/A9xx APS-C and FF next generation Alphas will benefit from the sensor and processing progress at Sony Alpha demonstrated by the NEX. Imagine this state of the art APS-C imaging machinery extended to an FF sensor. Wow.

Off topic:

It appears the thread addresses a small target group defined by "those who hold best-of-the-best IQ in such overwhelming regard as to need FF and anguish over which of the CZ/G lenses is topmost best and worry about other sometimes very minor differences in lenses, sensors, etc."

IMHO, such group does not exist- or am I missing a little sarcasm here? FF BTW is not the end of IQ, there is the Leica S2 system and the MF backs from 39 to whatever MP.

Users of such IQ monsters may also very well appreciate the convenience with which the NEX offers true APS-C IQ.

Anyway: Happy shooting.

Have you tried using a A850/A900? FF is not all about "best-of-the-best IQ" and it's a myth that CZ/G lenses are a must.
