Well I took the plunge, ordered the D1x and Nikor f2.8 80-200 DED plus an extra battery. It all arrived last Friday with the only problem being it came with a French manual. I have been going back to the web everytime I have questions I need answers to. All I can say after about 500 pictures on the weekend is WOW!!. I had reservations about spending so much money but after the results I have gotten I am glad I did ( i can say that because the credit card bill won't be here for another month!). I am not a pro and I do firmly believe that buying top notch equipement is no guarentee that you will get great images but I will say that the D1x allowed me to capture images at my sons soccer game that just were not possible to get with my Olympus E10, this is attributed directly to the capability differences between the cameras. Can anyone recommend what shutter release cable is good for the D1x? soon I will start shooting in RAW and will probably have questions that I hope people on this forum will help with, I know it gets asked all the time but it's nice to get answers to your specific situation from more experienced users. Last but not least for anyone considering the D1x I find it very hard to believe that you could be dissapointed in any way with this camera.

Hi Dave,

I'm using Nikon MC-30 shutter release cable for my D1x, it dose what I wanted it to do, to triger the shutter since I do all setting on the camera. It also allow you prefocus your subject. It works fine on both of my AFS 80-200mm f2.8 & AFS 24-85mm f3.5-4.5G Lens.

Start shooting in RAW, you will love it as soon as you get along with Capture 2 or 3. I won't shoot in another format other then RAW. GO RAW!
