Can someone identify this kind of duck fo rme?

It may be that the duck is immature. The adult feathers aren't quite grown in, and there are no curled tail feathers specific to adult Mallard drakes.

I think it is a Mallard, you do tend to get a lot of variations in their plumage owing to their amorous nature and tendency to hybridise! It is not uncommon for birds from the same clutch of eggs displaying vastly differing plumage.

I vote for a Mallard.

Not the greatest picture due to my focal point, but here is a family of Mallards.

This family actually roams my neighborhood and this particular picture was taken very quickly while they were on my front lawn.

Male, female and young male. You can see that the young male has different feathering.

I was over at Flickr's Sony forum tonight and guess what I came across? I think it's your duck but I still don't know what kind. However, I'm rethinking the mallard idea. The dark headed male doesn't have as much color as a male mallard has.
