I am looking for a good Budget point and shoot digital camera that still takes decent looking pictures, isn't slow etc. Any good recommendations? I would really like the keep the price to $130 at the most. $150 I would consider. I wouldn't mind refurb.

thanks

First off, the camera will not take any photos for you. I also have a $150 camera that returns excellent photos, but it would return lousy photos in the hands of a point-and-shooter. If you want a camera that does the work for you without you needing to think, stop now. Such a camera system is very expensive. What are you trying to do with the camera? What lens do you need? What other features do you need?

Have you checked the Buying Guide?

Have you checked your local camera store?

I am going on a trip. Obviously I do not want to it to take it for me. I can take decent photos I just need a simple camera with minimal features that works well, isn't slow and is a quality camera. Lens does not matter to me just looking to get a specific recommendation.

I have to be suggestive like that, because there are many consumers who expect that the camera is the thing that does all the work, and that more money means better photos.

It is really hard to be specific if you do not have any specific requirements. There are so many compact cameras that it is impossible to suggest one that is better than others unless you have some legitimate requirements. I did this by simply eliminating all cameras that lacked DW-R. If it fails when wet, it is no good to me. Try that criterion and you will limit yourself to a handful of compact cameras. Then consider the shape of the camera, the lens, and the price. That could be the camera that you buy.

I generally point people at Canon's when in doubt. If your budget stretches you might like the Fuji F70. I normally advise people to stay away from Nikon compacts, which have been generally poor.

You'll find the main difference between cameras is the interface and the package. It helps if you look at them in a store.

At your budget you should find a good compact camera. I don't know what all the talk about expensive cameras. The bottom line is the size of the sensor. You won't shoot the IQ of that of a dslr so what your looking is at convenience and portability. You can't take the dslr because its just too big and doesn't fit well when going out eat.

Hi i can give u some suggestion if u r looking a camera which is under 150 dollar . In my opinion u can choose these two brands sony w350 or w360 and canon sd780IS. Both cameras produces excellent picture quality . And they r very much handy . Easily u can keep in ur shirt pocket . Here i am posting some pictures which i took sony w360 (The only difference is LCD screen size between W350 and W360 )

Just some general points worth looking out for.

1) An optical viewfinder (LCD displays can be next to useless in sunlight).

2) A 28mm - 30mm (35mm equivalent) wide end of the zoom range - wide angle IMO is generally much more useful than a long focal length.

3) If portability is not an issue - maybe take a look at Fuji's S200EX - looks like a DSLR - has a bigger sensor than most compacts and has a huge zoom range inc a useful wide angle.

4) Agree with another poster - avoid Nikon P&S's.

5) Canon and Sony would be my choice of 'pocketable' compacts.

Adrian.
