Hello Group,

Its been a long time since I posted in here so hows everyone? my question is what editing software can I get for under $200.oo?

I understand that "Corel" Paint Shop Pro is pretty good or are there better software programs for my price range...thanks for your assistance, Jake

GIMP is free and quite powerful. Bit of a pain to learn, but lots of online stuff to help you.
At least the price is right :-)

Are you a student or a teacher? Is your wife a student or your daughter\son?

(student being college)

You can get CS5 for 200 bucks if so.....

Wow! my daughter is a collage student so CS5 is definitely a great idea at that price...thanks

Whats great too is it a full version and next time for cs6 you can get the upgrade price.....

Lightroom for 89 bucks is pretty amazing too. It can do just about everything most people need. If RAW processing, sharpening and such is all you doing Lightroom may be the way to go.....

My wife is getting her Masters and she bought both. Mostly for me but she had to do some slideshows :)

Here is the link. You do have to prove she is in school (transcript, bill, student ID)

My wife sent her info and we had the product key within minutes.

Again thanks everyone, so is "Lightroom 3" for editing jpgs also or is it mainly for RAW? I shoot both formats, however, I have been doing a lot of jpgs recently :)

I guess 'cause I got lazy but I am getting back into this wonderful hobbie!

Both

Dowload the trial. Its worth every penny.

Is a place to store, catalog, edit, create slideshows, really anything you need to do minus hardcore editing.

For 89 bucks with the discount its the best there is. Even at 300 its worth it.

Debatable - Lightroom's 7D RAW processing is know to have some issues (exacerbating vertical banding when pushing shadows hard) - other bodies are fine with it though, I believe.

For 7D RAW files there is a school of thought that DPP is the way to go - it's a stretch to say Lightroom is "the best there is" when talking 7D.

This, of course, might be completely irrelevant to n2bowling, who hasn't indicated which camera is being used.

Also from Adobe...

Adobe Student and Teacher Editions are the same full-featured creative software as the commercial versions priced at a substantial discount. Other products available as Student and Teacher Editions include Adobe® Creative Suite® 5 Design Standard, Photoshop® CS5 Extended, Dreamweaver® CS5, Flash® Professional CS5, Acrobat® 9 Pro, and Photoshop Lightroom 3

WoW! I just checked over at my daughters collage and Adobe CS5 with her student I.D. is $229.oo. I'm guessing thats a good price....I'll be saving up for that puppy for sure and it seems that they dont carry, at least right now, LR3.

For fun I did DL last night Picaso3 from Google and ran it after DLing it and its actually a neat little program. I like how it searched my whole HDD and then showed all of the folders that I have on its left side, it also comes with a nice little editing program for doing some basic stuff. I think I will DL LR3 though just to see how it is. Also it should be noted that I am by nooooooooooo stretch of imagination a Pro potog just a guy who loves photography and everything that comes with it, although, this is one expensive hobbie :) Thanks again folks

Hello again, yet another newbie question, does LH3 have the same editing tools as Adobe photo-shop 8, please tell me what makes LH3 better then Adobe PS8.
Thanks, Jake

Photoshop Elements 8 has terrible image rendering making any images you view quite coarse and grainy. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself as the on screen images look really rough. Why Adobe thought they had to do this lord alone knows.
