NX5 announced officially

Regarding the actual camera, it seems odd that Samsung would create the NX5 to be so similar in features and price to the NX10. It doesn't seem worth it, although I guess it really took minimal development to design and produce this camera.

I would have removed the viewfinder to further lower the price, I think there is a significant portion of the market who doesn't generally use the viewfinder and will choose the cost savings.

I have to admit I was bummed about the lack-of-redesign, but as you say, it looks like purely a cost-cutting move (to be seen how much though - isn't the kit going for $699 MSRP now, and this is $899 [equiv euro?]?) I hope they didn't do something like gimp the burst rate, buffer, put some lame low-res LCD in there, or some other nonsense!

I guess that OLED was a significant cost, or there is a shortage of them in MFG, and this is a fall-back plan for lack of parts! That would explain the lack of availability of the NX10 here in the US.

More models + lower costs are great, though.

Suppose there is nothing wrong in a budget model if it shifts and recoups development costs of the NX .

Would like to see a model with Amoled articulating screen, lose the EVF and flash hump.

Down the line it goes without saying a newer sensor , faster Autofocusing and more frames per second etc etc.

Perhaps they might bundle the NX5 with the proposed NONE stabilised 18-55mm lens, adding to the overall ability to bring in a lower cost option.

-- Seems like Samsungs answer to the Pany G10 get a similar model out and keep the price just under it. So you can have Samsung NX5 with slighly higher resolution EVF or Panys G10 with higher resolution rear LCD screen? The one thing inspite of significantly larger lenses sice that Samsung has going for it is the lower cost compact 30/f2 lens (compared to Pany 30/f1.7) which is attractive with either NX10 or NX5 . Also matched the price of Sony mini NEX3 but that has less useable 16mm/f2.8 wa lens compared to 30mm/f2and lacks EVF.

"So disappoint they keep this fake SLR style. Make a M9 style with EVF please. "
If that particular style is really important to you, then you may want to look at the Panasonic GF1 - However, I had the GF1 and in my hands, particularly with a non-pancake lens, I used to get an ache in that large muscle / fleshy part under the right thumb.

In contrast, the NX10 ergonomics are perfect, with comtours that allow long periods of use in the hands without any discomfort, regardless of what sized lens is attached. The shape also benefits the employment of an EFV because it is easier to hold to the face and keep stable ... getting extra steady shots.

in time, Samsung may bring out the kind of model you want - but I imagine it will be as well as, not instead of the NX10 style.

I think it's not the grip most people want gone (which sticks out less than an attached lens anyway), but the viewfinder hump.

As many have echoed here, another lower-priced model is a good thing. But had they decided to do a little more re-tooling, I think Samsung could've gotten some 'addition by subtraction' by removing the EVF. That would have reduced unit cost even more, with a bit of extra development cost.

Even had they kept the same price as exists now for the NX5, many people would have liked it (look at the popularity of the GF1.) But no biggie, I imagine new models will follow later.

But the NX5, as the name suggests, is of the same family as the NX10, so it seems quite appropriate that the NX5 is simply a variation of the NX10.

I imagine that the gamera you want will have a different designation - the same way as Panasonic have the G1/G2 family and the GF1 family.

it seems that its not announced in the USA.
In which countries ?
I only know ( see following post )
