I vote for Fled...

Way o go Ergo! An IQ of 60 is something to be proud of these days!
Fled,

I have spent 34 years of my life working with the mentally retarded, physically handicapped and other disabilities. I have been the administrator of a sheltered worshop for the developmentally disabled for the past 27 1/2 years. Our program is being named as a pilot program for the entire state. All state programs will be modeled after it in the future. I have a fair understanding of I.Q. and the importance or lack of importance of it. As such, I do not consider that an insult. I have been fortunate to spend my entire adult life helping the disabled and will continue to do that with a great deal of pride in what I do and with whom I am so lucky to work. I learn something from disabled people every day and try to help them when I can.

I think you meant to type: Way to go Ergo! An I.Q. of 60 is something to be proud of these days! Not: Way o go Ergo! An IQ of 60 is something to be proud of these days!

I have noticed Erg's signature has had a number in brackets after it over the last few days. Reading between the lines, it seems the Reverand gentleman has taken to the wagon and the number represents the days he has not partaken of the demon drink.

Those not in the know (myself included) were somewhat confused by the message.

And Tim. Since Ergo clearly does not have an iq of 60 I think we can safely assume Fled was (a) not in the know, and (b) joking.

So instead of firing off half cocked, how about just explaining to him. He may offer his congratulations to Ergo too.

As do I

Peter
Someone congratulated Ergo on his 60th birthday, and Fled had this
to say.

Now where did I put those SLRs?

Congrats to all that you have accomplished in the 27 years! You finally got the state to realize just how great that Center and it's workers truly are!
You are DA MAN!

There are so many people out there who you have helped to give a better life to and you will continue to do so because that is who and what you are!

Congrats on your 60 days! I know that some days are more difficult than others....

'cuz I'm lost as to context, perhaps?

I didn't read the thread, only the link posted, so perhaps I missed something?

The reason I ask is because from reading the remark about I.Q., I didn't get the visceral reaction that others did, in fact it sounds a lot like many of the quips, jabs and joking remarks that are regularly exchanged on this forum, especially between tim, ergo, KK and others. Yes, it could be a bit of a biting remark, perhaps, but I don't see it as inherently evil or obviously intended as a serious assessment of intelect. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see Erg, himself, make such a remark!
Now, maybe I'm just wrong.
Maybe others are over-reacting.

Maybe some folks are overly sensitive to remarks about Erg, as many of us are aware (to some degree) of his special situation.
Maybe someone needs a nap?

If I'm just not aware of context or impact, please tell me.

Ergo,

My wife use to work in a home for developmentally disabled adults through Bethphage. The residents were "real "people and as a matter of fact some were more loving than the average person on the street. I always get distressed when someone like Fled makes a comment about IQ when they don't even know what they are talking about. Even if it's a joke it's in bad taste in my opinion.I guess we have to consider the source.Social skills are not everyones Forte. congrats again. Enough of my rambling.

Ricky,

I agree whole-heartedly.
Actually, I was more surprised at 3DTim's response than Fled's remark.

Ricky,

Your confusion in this "conveniently politically correct" forum is quite understandable. It's amazing how easily people in society today are set off when they want to be set off. Apparently, you didn't want to be set off... but don't fret - I'm quite certain you are in the majority. I'm sure most the people who regularly read this forum read the comment and brushed it off as the "quip, jab and/or joking remark" that it was.

But isn't it fun to watch people overreact? Sprinkle a little spice in the mix, and the real a$$holes always flare up.

Fled, now I'm more confused. I fully expected that you would post here to say that my take on this was the right one, and that you would go on to say that it was, in fact, intended as a light-hearted joke.

Perhaps that's what you meant?

It seemed that was where you were going, there for just a second, but then you seemed to toss a little more fuel on the fire with the last remark, so again, I'm lost.

It is so very difficult in this text-driven world to fill-in the missing data that would be provided by tone, inflection and body language in an actual conversation. Sometimes its helpful to include smileys or whatever to make sure the reader gets an idea of the context.

In this case, I don't know, but I was solidly in your corner till round two. Now I'll just wait for the bell...

Juli,

(this is my response that I was going to post before I noticed that Fled had responded)

Given that its "hard to say", don't you feel that the A$$hole moniker was way harsh? I think I would reserve that degree of admonition in a case which contained any ambiguity.

(This is the slightly different response that I will now post after Fled's responses, as I have more information to with which to work).

It may have been an attempt at wry humor, but Fled's subsequent posts have been less ambigous. especially the post including the malicious and repugnant "re Todd did". I now join 3DTim is the annointing of Fledhole.
Sincerely
Ricky
It may have been an attempt at wry humor. Hard to say.
