Any recommendations for UV lens filters for a Nikon D3000?

Wasn't sure if brand really made a difference?

Thanks,

I have always been a big fan of UV filters. However, several posts on this forum bring up the good point that digital is not as affected by UV as film, and as lenses get cheaper there's less to protect.

I'm still of the opinion that a good UV filter is the way to go, but you need to get one that is at least of the same quality as the lens. There's nothing worse than taking a really good Nikon lens (and all Nikon lenses are at least really good) and putting cheap glass in front of them. So, yes, brand does matter.... a lot....

It's hard to go wrong with the Hoya Digital Pro 1 or the B+W MRC UV filters.

You'll also want to get a Circular Polarizer and a Neutral Density (ND8) to round out your collection.

Yup, I agree on that. Don't go too cheap on filters. I see some posting about having to purchase a better quality filter just b/c the first cheap one wasn't good and affecting IQ.

I bought a circular polarizing B+W filter, and am pretty happy with it. Solid, good performance, easy to clean, no problem with IQ and more.

There are other good brand filter out there. Hoya pro 1 and B+W filters (the MRC and kaesemann) seems to be very popular. some of the others are marumi, singh ray, nikon. there are more that some trust, but these are the more popular.

You have to be careful with buying Hoya's filters b/c Hoya's filters comes in a large range and some of the cheaper one aren't that great. But the higher price one are good like Hoya pro 1 and Hoya HD digital.
