So much negative talk?! I like it, especially threads shited to the left margin. Thanks for the work. ill save you bugs and negatives for now :)

Yep thumbs up from me.

Moving the forum options from the left side to the top makes it far easier to use on my netbook :D

Does wonders for my browsing monitor too... A 24" widescreen in portrait orientation.

I like it!

Much better navigation!

Much better use of computer monitor/display.

And it just looks cleaner.

Well done DPR.

Then get Phil to have more of that flashing banner at the top and enjoy!

As with any forum software upgrade, we'll get used to it.

I personally don't like the messages on the left and would prefer to swap the ads to the left side and have the messages on the right.

The pages just looks backwards to me (probably from my years in the newspaper business).

But I'll get used to it.

I don't understand why, in this age of widescreen laptops and monitors, that so many websites are designed from the top down. Moving information from the side to the top means that I get less of the site on my screen at any given time. Not a big deal, just don't understand why.

It is easier to design web site from top to bottom and make it banner-friendly for any resolution - I guess starting from 640x480 :)

The design rules are simple - make sure you have a banner on top of your page and make sure the main content portion of your site + banner can feet into 640 (or 800) pixels horizontaly. Don't forget to put "a lot of usefull information" under main top banner - like posting rules and let the user scroll!

Thanks,
Alex

I find it more or less equivalent in terms of functionality. I guess it looks slightly "prettier" but the auto-scrolling widgets are annoying.

It's also annoying that the login forms were apparently changed, and my password manager "forgot" my login information. I tried to recover my previous password but the password recovery form asks for user name and e-mail address, and I have no idea what e-mail address I used to register here (I have lots of old mailboxes, all redirecting to my current one). Why can't the password recovery form simply ask for the user name and then send the new password to the address registered in that user's record, like on just about every other forum?

I ended up just registering a new account, but it's a bit annoying.

I get all that, but with most laptops and monitors going widescreen, one would think web sites would adapt to better fill the space.

Personally, I don't like widescreen monitors because I have a tendency to like to shoot verticals and they are tiny on widescreen monitors because they are so short. Good luck finding a 24 inch non-widescreen monitor though.
